Nashville, TN is widely known as the home of Country Music and the Grand Ole Opry, which was at the Ryman Auditorium for years in Downtown Nashville, but it has now been moved outside of town to a new larger location off the main highway.

With this being the opening weekend for the Olympic games in Greece, it was only fitting to check out the Parathenon in Tennessee:eek: The massive structure was built in 1897 for the centennial exposition and now is an Art Museum.

After my short tour of Nashville, I was off to Loretta Lynn's!!!!

When I arrived, I quickly found out that this was one of the largest turnouts I have ever seen at a ATV event. Trucks, Motorhomes, and cars where parked everywhere they could find a empty space and they stretched around the entire facility. After driving around for a while, looking for a parking space within a short walk of the track, I finally parked and began checking out who all was in attendance for this big event.

EXriders.com Site Sponsor Pro Armor's Cory Hinsz made the trip from California to introduce himself to Pro Armor sponsored riders. Cory recently took over this position after Ray Martinez started his own venture. Pro Armor couldn't have picked a better person to fill his shoes, Pro MX racer Cory has been involved with Pro Armor since they began, and has been helping them develop and improve their products over the years. Cory also will be attending a GNCC series race in the Fall.

ITP Tires, Craig Peterson, also showed up to watch the final round of the MX Nationals. ITP tires has really stepped up to the plate this year as the GNC Series Title sponsor and enhanced its very successful rider support program. ITP Tires also has been listening to the racers in both the GNC & GNCC Series and released several new tires and wheels to provide riders with more options for different track conditions, which also has been very successful.

ITP is far from finished and EXriders.com will be bringing you all the details in an Interview with Craig Peterson coming soon!

Gary Denton also showed up to show his support ATV racing. Gary Denton was an ATV Racing machine from 1987 to 1994 when he won Grand National Pro Class Champion eight times in a row:eek:

Gary Denton spent most of the day at the Suzuki trailer, which was only fitting considering he was part of Suzuki's first ATV racing Teams back in 1987 when the factories were heavily involved in the new sport of ATV racing. Now, 17 years later, Team Suzuki once again has returned ATV racing with Doug Gust, and next year, team is expected to be expanded to include even more riders, which will be truely awesome! Now, where is Yamaha & Honda?

Gary Denton is now the Marketing/Advertising Manager for Weekend Warrior trailers, and they will be awarding a Trailer at the GNC Banquet to one lucky rider this year.

Another Great ATV Racer from the past, Curtis Sparks (Right) has been actively involved in the ATV racing for years and has been providing trackside support this year for Jeremiah Jones, Keith Little, Harold Goodman, and many other racers, but he was mostly hidden from view working on his racers machines in the back of their trailers. Rumor has it that Curtis Sparks will be have a larger presence at next years GNC Series.

Former ATV racer, Scott Drummond (Back Right) will be joing the Sparks Staff and moving his family from the Carolina's to California to assist with the larger programer :D.

Loretta's had the largest attendance ever for an MX ATV race with over 850 entries:eek: Riders came from all over the country and almost a dozen made the trip from California with Roy Bloodsworth and his family.

Several Top Riders from California Sage Baker, Darrell Patton, and Danny Ragon competed in Pro Am Classes at Loretta's

It was great to see alot of EXriders.com members at the track, and especially Big Kids Racing, Roy Bloodsworth. I hadn't seen Roy in person since last year, and him and his Daughter Brittany have been providing the Awesome race coverage from the West Coast this year for EXriders.com.

Roy's ride of choice was his Cannondale which he had looking pretty sweet!

Suzuki had a huge presence at the event with a Semi & Tent. They had on display atleast 10 2005 machines and I was able to get my first look at the 05 LTZ400. The biggest improvements to the machine were the fully adjustable front shocks, but it also received several other enhancements!

1. Larger 37mm carburetor with throttle position sensor
2. Revised cam profiles for improved overall power output
3. Increased number of clutch drive plates (8 to 9)
4. New magnesium valve cover, clutch cover and ignition cover
5. New aluminum front bumper and aluminum rear grab bar
6. Aluminum gear shift lever

Team Suzuki had everyone in suspense at Doug Trailer because they had a quad on displayed covered with a tarp. The crowd suspected that it might be the new LTZ450, but instead it was the limited edition Black LTZ400. I guess we will just have to wait till after the Suzuki Sponsored ATV Industry Show this October and see if any news is released about the rumored 450.

GNCC Track Specialist, Jeff Russell, and the entire Racer Production Crew did an excellent job preparing the course and keeping it maintained throughout the entire weekend!

With the 1st Moto about to begin, The Racer Production crew groomed the starting area as the racer began making their way to the starting gate.

The Start was level and had around a two feet long straight away before a wide Right hand turn followed a narrow left hand turn 100 or more feet down the track around a tree.

The Loretta's track is almost completely level and is nestled in the valley along a river and is surrounding mostly by wooded hills. The track consists of several high speed straight-aways with high speed sweeping turns at the ends. Riders were with a few rolling doubles and of course the most technical whoops section of all the tracks the "The Ten Commandments " which claimed it share of riders throughout the weekend.

Admin
08-19-2004, 06:32 AM
The biggest jump on the track was the 60'+ Table Top which was a crowd pleaser as it launched the riders easily twenty feet into the air with its steep face. It was followed by a step-up table top and a series of smaller doubles before heading back around to the finish line.

Admin
08-19-2004, 06:36 AM
A Flat landing Double launched the riders to the finish line and they rounded a turn in front of the crowd before they drop down into another whoops sections that wasn’t as demanding as the Dirty Dozen in the back stretch of the track.. Once through the whoops, they hammered down for a long stretch of flat out drag racing along the edge of the track in front of the fans waving and cheering.

East Coast ATV's, #13 John Natalie Jr prepared his gate area before the 1st Moto! John heading into the final round knowing that he only needed to finish 16th even if Tim Farr Won the event to remain in 2nd Place behind Doug Gust who had a 95 point lead and wrapped up the championship at London, KY.

Lonestar Racing's, Keith Little, headed into the race fairly secure in 8th Place overall this year, which was down from his third place overall finish last year on his Lonestar CRF450 machine. The conversion to a production machine has definitely affected his performance because he felt the Lonestar machine he raced last year was the best quad he ever raced.

Once the riders returned from their practice lap, they wasted no time starting the National Anthem to keeps things moving because the of all the entries Last Chance Qualifiers overflowed into Sunday Morning before they could even start the Sunday's 27:eek2: 2nd Moto races on the schedule.

The Weather for the Event this year at Loretta's in August couldn't have been better!!! Loretta's is known for being extremely hot and humid, but not this weekend. Temps were in the Mid 80's with very low humdity which made the biggest difference in the comfort level.

The spectators crowded along the entire perimeter of the track to watch the last MX race of the season. It was just incredible to see so many people coming out to watch the race. I have been to many Motorcycle Outdoor Nationals and they normally attrack thousands of spectators, but the ATV Community is finally starting to catch up in a hurry:).

Soon after National Anthem, the roar of the revving engines on the line began, and the gate dropped to start the 1st Moto! #55 Doug Gust, #4 Tim Farr, #708 Harold Goodman, and #6 Tavis Cain charged around the first turn heading toward the 2nd left hand turn to the open drag straightaway.

John Natalie Jr. also quickly became a spectator after his first turn crash, and he stood in the mechanics area rooting on his East Coast Teammate Dustin Wimmer!!!

With Farr out front, this was the worst possible scenario for John Natalie's quest to finish 2nd Overall, and it was still early in the race.

Keith Little worked his way up to fifth place by passing the fading Harold Goodman. After Goodman's success at Southwick, I thought we were going to see a repeat performance this weekend at Loretta’s, but it just wasn’t going to happen unless he found a burst of energy.

Dustin Wimmer was back to 7th with Jeremiah Jones and Joe Byrd battling for the 8th spot as both of them charged passed riders one by one.

Jeremiah Jones & Joe Byrd didn't waste any time passing Wimmer & Harold Goodman to quickly move up to 6th & 7th places. In the Process, Joe Byrd also passed Jones and took over the 6th spot behind Keith Little in a dramatic charge from the back to the front.

Jeremiah Jones was also still on his own mission to move to the front as he passed Tavis Cain and moved into 4th place behind Joe Byrd.

Admin
08-20-2004, 08:37 AM
Unfortunately, Jason Luburgh's YFZ quit on him as he went through the "Ten Commandments" which prevented him from finishing the race, which was disappointing after charging so hard through the race and working his way up to 4th place.

With Jason out of the race, Keith Little advanced to 6th place with Dustin Wimmer, Harold Goodman, Pat Brown, and Kory Ellis rounding out the top 10.

Admin
08-20-2004, 08:39 AM
With the white flag out, Doug Gust remained out front with a comfortable lead as Tim Farr and Joe Byrd battled for the 2nd spot.

Admin
08-20-2004, 08:44 AM
Joe Byrd makes the pass on Tim Farr and moves into 2nd place for his best finish yet this year, and Joe did it in front of his hometown crowd! Joe Byrd lives only a little over an hour away from Loretta's, and he won the overall here last year, so with a 2nd Place finish in the 1st Moto. His oppurtunity for a repeat was definitely looking good if he could finish in front of Gust in the 2nd Moto.

Angela Moore waved me over to buy some tickets, so I bought my normal $5.00 worth which gives me 10 chances, and I ended up winning:eek: I was in total shock because I not one with much luck, and I can count the number of things that I have won in my life on one hand.

#4 Tim Farr first year on the Honda 450R wasn't the kind of year that everyone would have expected him to have, but it definitely wasn't a bad year at all. I give Tim & Mark a lot of credit for taking a brand new machine and making it competitive against the YFZ & LTZ that have been around for at least a year for testing to see what works best on the track. Tim got off to a slow start with carb and axle issues the first two Nationals, but quickly got into a groove by the 4th round at Birch Creek where he finished 2nd Overall and the 450R made its first GNC Podium Appearance. Tim went on to remain on the podium for the next four rounds in a row and currently has five podium appearances out of 11 rounds.

Tim Farr went into Loretta’s in third overall in 27 points behind John Natalie Jr, but needed to win the Overall and John finish below 17th to take over the 2nd spot. With Tim out front early in the race and John sidelined, it looked like he might have been able to pull it off, but dropped back to third, which allowed John to wrap up the 2nd Spot behind Doug Gust for the season.

Hopefully, next year, Honda will step up to the plate like Suzuki did this year for Tim’s program.

#7 Joe Byrd definitely didn’t make a smooth transition from to Production quads. Last year, Joe Byrd found himself on the Podium 7 times in 9 races and his worst finish of the year was 5th place at Southwick where he lost the championship lead to Jeremiah Jones by four points.

This year has been a completely different story for Joe, his rough year started out with a crash at Glen Helen in practice that broke several ribs which almost prevented him from racing. He struggled the first three rounds on the YFZ and switched to the 450R at Birch Creek and finished a season best 6th place, which was a far cry from last season. Starting over with a new machine didn’t change his luck much and he continued to struggle for the rest of the season heading into Loretta’s. His two best finishes have been 6th place, so after finishing 2nd in the 1st Moto behind Doug Gust, Joe Byrd heading into the 2nd Moto looking to have a repeat performance at Loretta’s from last year with an overall win!

08-23-2004, 08:17 AM
#53 Kory Ellis raced a LTZ400 for most of last season and switched to the YFZ at High Point and Won his first race of the year. Kory remained on Yamaha from that point and started out this season by winning the 1st GNC race at his hometown track Glen Helen. Kory followed it up with several top four finishes in row and another podium finish at Macon, GA. Since his early success, he has continued to be consistent, but hasn’t been able to make it back to the podium.

He went into Loretta’s in 4th Place Overall, but Jeremiah Jones was within striking distance with only 13 points separating them, and it was even closer after Jones4th place finish in the 1st moto and Kory finishing 10th , so the 2nd moto was going to be exciting to see who would finish out the season in the 4th spot.

Harold Goodman remained in the lead after the 2nd lap, and Joe Byrd caught up to Doug Gust and was working hard to find a line to pass him to take over the 2nd spot as he goes wide around a turn trying to out horsepower Doug. Joe Byrd amazingly was able to make the pass and move infront of Doug Gust, which was exactly what he needed to do for a chance to win the Overall in the 2nd moto, since Doug Won the 1st Moto with Byrd in 2nd Place.

Admin

Last but Not Least, I think it is very important to recognize Andrew Green who qualified out of 50+ riders to compete in the 2nd Moto on Sunday on his LT250R in the C Class. what made his accomplishment extra special is that he is home on 30 Day leave from the Military and is a career service men:macho

After the Loretta's race he will be putting his Quadracer into Storage and heading back over seas to Germany and possibly Iraq to serve our Country!!!

He finished 8th in his first Moto, but a blown gasket in the 2nd Moto sent him to the back of the pack :( It didn't bother him one bit, and he enjoyed every moment out of the track

 I don’t even know where to begin. First off, thanks to Harlen for great coverage this year in all the racing venues. Thanks to all the great people who read and post on exriders.com. There are so many people who have helped me out this year that I can never thank everyone. From the big name sponsors right down to the youngest person out there who believed I could do good even when I didn’t. I love the fans out there, whether your mine or just fans of the best sport on the planet....quad racing!! Its great having the chance to be a role model for all the people who look up to the pros. I will always remember where I came from, whether I get a billion $ contract or just race with what I have now. Racing and riding is the main thing in my life that has made me who I am and kept me from getting in alot of trouble by having "nothing better to do" while I was growing up. Some people say they think Quads are too dangerous but I can think of alot worse things. Sure they can be dangerous if they are used irresponsibly or parents forget to teach and enforce safe rules and riding gear. But what in life isn't dangerous if its abused. I would rather see my kids on quads and be with them in a family sport then have them out doing god knows what with who. well now that I bored you with all that stuff I'd like to thank some people!!! First off my parents for always supporting me, The Reiser family for hauling my bikes and everything else they do for me, And of course my girlfriend Michelle Reiser who just happens to be the hottest motorcross rider ever to throw a leg over a quad or a bike!!

I would also like to say thanks to the guys that bring all the pics and info to everyone. They are on the track alllllllll day long taking pics and jotting down info. They have givin my sponsors alot of coverage not to mention getting my mug in a few places as well.
