I'm looking at buying a new bike with a "Durablue 2+2 axle" on it. What is this? Does this mean that the axle is 2 inches wider than stock? Is that per side or total? What is the benefit of a wider axle? I'm not sure I would need this. Thanks for any info.

yes it is a wider axle...2 inches wider than stock

a wider axle can help from being less tippy

and watch out for durablue...they tend to snap

Less tippy is good. Is it 2 inches wider on each side or total? 2+2 sounds to me like it's 2 inches wider on both sides. Thanks for the help.

The amswer to your simple question is this: the axle will be 4 inches wider than stock if you fully extend it. I race XC so I have mine set at +2. It is adjustable between +2 and +4 inches and is done by switching the collars that come with it. If you race XC just get an aftermarket that is stock size or +2. If you race MX you should set it at +4. If you don't race I wouldn't bother.

The benefits are that they are usually lifetime guaranteed and won't bend like a stock axle.
