i need some jetting and needle recomendations for my hybrid crf450.My main jet is a 170 and clip on needle is in the middle. Here is my problem pipe gets hot fast and starts to glow red and back fires alot and blows a flame out the pipe.It sounds like its way fat but could be wrong.

I am not much of a carb guy, however that sounds like it is real lean. That is a dangerous situation for a motor. pull your plug and see if it is white in color. If it is, then you are too lean and must richen it up or your top end will be toast.

here is the funny thing, the plug is tan but the motor gets hot real fast. Now it has a 165 main and is easier to start but is back firing more, so im starting to think its lean

Has it run right since you put it together? You may be off a tooth on your cam. Sounds like it may be too far advanced.

is the pipe glowing red at idle, 1/4 throttle, full throttle?

here's the deal now...........185main, 50 pilot and no back firing. But pipe still gets hot fast and pipe glows red, whats the deal still to lean????

heres the deal to figure out if the setup is perfect, run around and make sure the quads warmed up. then stab the throttle. if it revs up clean then i'd think you'd still be good, but if it hesistates at all i think you'd still need to go a little bit richer, mainly only on the main, the pilot sounds like a good size.

what bike is this on?

you could still be lean on the needle or clip

This carb is on a crf450 and the needle is on the 3rd position from bottom
