This is the first time that I will ever take a quad motor completely down. I can do top end easy enough. I now have to do a crank replacement. I need to know if there are special tools to do the job? pullers etc. Is there something that maybe I should watch out for , or any tips maybe? Thank you for your help!!!!:D :D :D :D P.S. I have a 440ex

It should come right out if your lucky. I've had a few special cases in the shop where I've had to carefully press the crank out.
Take it to shop would be my suggestion, but if you feel up to task do it. Just remembers its your quad man. Take care.

My manual says I need some special installation tool for the case. Can I get away with not using one?

All you need is a flywheel puller. Heat the case some and the crank goes in and out easier. The bearing comes out with the crank on flywheel side! Make sure you line up the crank and counterbalancer when installing!
