I'm just curious what gear most of you use when you start. On my ex i always start and 2nd and it pulls like a freight train.

Since my 400 is down im gonna be racing a 450r tommorow. And with 18 inch tires 2nd still seems kinda tall. Do most of you start in first?

As far as power mods this 450 is pretty stock uni filter and hrc endcap. Stock gearing with mxr's.

i think my razr mx's are 18's. they could be 20's. either way i start out in 1st gear and it pulls really good. just feather the clutch real good and you will do really good.

Do u race MX with 4? Try bumping up to8- 10, 4 is for those stock tires

Hammer is right, 4 lbs is too low. It will want to wheelie too much. I start in second. I have a stock motor other than a Sparks pipe.

with a pipe stock gearing and 18's I think you could pull a 2nd gear start, but without I would do a 1st gear start, we run 5 psi in our mx tires.

Ive tried 8 pounds and it seems to spin a lot more.

I run 7 pounds and run maxxis 18" tires. 2nd gear is no problem.

they are 18 because the razr mxs only come in 18 inch rear sizes.:)

if its stock gearing start out in first...your first on the 450R is basically everyone elses 2nd....i would only start out in 2nd if u changed ur front sprocket to a 13 which is what i did and im running 18's however with the 14 tooth and starting out in first, not 2nd i always seemed to pull a better holeshot

Its hard to argue with Doug Gust

Hard-Packed:

- Soft rubber compound

- REAR: 12 psi

- FRONT: 18 psi (w/o beadlocks)

- FRONT: 12 psi (with beadlocks)

Sand and soft:

- Harder rubber compound

- REAR: 12 psi

- FRONT: 18 psi (w/o beadlocks)

- FRONT: 12 psi (with beadlocks)

Wet conditions:

- Soft rubber compound

- REAR: 8-10 psi

- FRONT: 18 psi (w/o beadlocks)

- FRONT: 12 psi (with beadlocks

Well I went out and started in first gear in both motos with my 4 psi and pulled the holeshot each time. On a pretty stock 450r.

Thanks for the advice.;)

my choice of tire pressure has nothing to do with how well it is going to get the holeshot. Its more for loosing a tire on crooked landings

It may not, but if you have beadlocks it shouldnt come off any way.:macho
