id say get a 400ex, then when you outgrow that you can go to the 450r just my 2 cents:macho

i say go ahead and get a 450r,b/c it would just be smarter.u can learn on a 450r just as good as a 400,take it easy and work ur way up learn to use ur clutch and have fun,but if u get a 400 give yourself a month and ur used to it then u ride a 450 and liek dam i should have gotten one of them and once u spend all the money in teh 400 u will still be spendin more money then just buyin a 450 .really u can put alot of money in a 400 but it will never be a 450,so just get a 450 and start slow and go from there,u'll be fine,don't settle for less.i went from a 300 to a 450 so u just need to learn how to use a clutch

I would have to say an 05 450...either the Yammie or Honda would be a great quad. And being how you have ridden other quads, you can base an opinion on what you like and dont like from those quads.
You might also be able to find a steal on a brand new 450 right now as the 05s are fixing to come out. I know my local dealer is sellin both 450s (very nice having a Honda/Yammie dealer together) for cheap.

Invest in a 450 if you do not think the 400cc quads have the power you are looking for. :)

i moved up from the 300 b/c it was holdin me back, and i was plannin on gettin a 400ex till dec when i learned about the 450r. i rode my friends 400s all the time and they held me back,the power just ain't there but in afew ranges,if u know what i mean,but this 450.honda?yammi r just amazing,u have to really just think about it,everywhere a 400 is holdin u back, the 450 is wantin to u go harder faster and makin u faster ,i know practice makes u faster but everytime i go to the track notice myself gettin alot faster.and jumpin bigger jumps,the 450 power backs u up on decisions on jumps and what not.every mod to teh 450 and ur that much faster.i mena it's the same with a 400 but it doesn't make as much of a diff. so really think bout gettin a 450.best decision i ever made
