OK well im not that big (5'7, 5'8)
i have been on dirtbikes and quads ALL MY LIFE i started on a honda atc70 when i was 3 and still have atv's now.
But i loed having my old kx-80 when i was younger and i wanted to get like a 125 now. Then again i want a road legal bike. And while thinking that i dont know if a 2 stroke is that great to ride on the roads.
So basically what im asking is what is a good DUAL SPORT meaning i dont need a baja designs kit to make road legal and 400 or under cc's
i get my lisence in november (you get it at 16 1/2) and right then i can go get a motorcycle permit (same thing except you have a time, and no passengers)
so during the winter bikes go a little cheaper
what should i look for
AND I ALSO ONLY HAVE A MAXIMUM OF AOBUT $1000-1500 FOR A BIKE
i was thinking either a dr250, dr350 but i dont want a real heavy bike
HELP:confused:

you should get a cr125 and get a street legal kit on it. that would be awesome. there isnt one bike that comes street legal that i like. you should make your own.

can u do that? if so then do it
Here in New York, 2 strokes are illegal for rode use. I would get a crf250x. You cant go wrong there.

i dont know that u can, im looking in a rocky mountian and they only have the kits for 4 strokes. u could probably make the kits work for any bike you would just have to splice into the harness

I would look for a used drz....yellow bikes are the only way to go:macho
Jeff at the Quad shop has a dualsport. He rides into town on it at the races. Ask him what he thinks.
I like dualsports myself.

Any of the XR's are DR's will be great for dual sport and trails. They can also be found for good prices. For example, I have a nice XR600 for $1500.

thats a nice xr:eek:
I dont want a 2-stroke for the roads. And yes i know you can make a yz-250 road legal but you need to buy the baja designs kit which is like another $400.
if i get anything i think i would like to get like a dr350 or a nice xr400
although the xr400 is is a dirtbike not an enduro i can just get the baja designs kit and a title and be good?

It depends on the county you live in. A few years ago I took a bone stock XR400 to the DMV and got it registered and taged.

im in pa...basically everything is legal...lol
anyway then again with the cost of the xr400 and the cost of the stuff to make it legal i could have a dr350 or a drz400

I have a dr350se and i ride it to work about 20 miles every day
it tops out @ about 75 because i have it geared down for tighter trails, it came geared way too tall.
You would not regret getting one of these!
I picked mine up for 1800::D
