i am posting this for my buddy becasue he is either going to have a 416 or a 426 10:8.1 compression piston installed and he was woundering if a 426 will over heat often? and how reliable are they? is that a big power difference between the 416 and the 426?

I've never had a problem with mine overheating. As to wether or not its more powerful than a 416 personally I've ridden both and not really a whole lot of difference. Both rev fast as heck, pull hard, and run well. But also I would suggest that your friend get a cam (if he doesn't already own one), port and polish the head, and get a full exhaust then he will love it. But ive also ridden a 400ex with the 416 kit with ported and polished head but had stock exhaust and it ran good (better than stock motor).
Hope this helps.

Detonation is what will heat them up quick. I use a gallon of race gas in mine in the summer months. Other than that, a 416 or 426 will only run a little warmer than a stocker. The performance difference between the two will be little to none. At the minimum, I'd put in a cam as well. The stocker is really tame.
