I have had my 400ex for a couple months now and I have got used to the power of it so i decided to get somthing to give it more power. Its already jetted and piped so I decided to get a Wiseco 426 kit and a hot cam. Should I get a stage 1 or 2 hot cam.

I WOULD GET STAGE 2, BUT THATS JUST MY OPINION

that would depend on what compression you're going with....if you go with a higher compression piston, i would go with the 2, because the higher compression will help you keep your low end......if you stay with a mild compression piston, then i'd get the 1, that way you keep your low end.

I recently had a 426 11.1.1 Wiesco piston and a Stage 1 put in my 400ex for riding the dunes
Have not rode it at the dunes yet (too dam hot) but I really like the response of the cam at the local track. Most of the riders on this board seem to lean toward the stage 2 but I like my stage 1.
I think it also depends on the type of riding you do and the terrain ie: track, hills, sand , sand hills, trails, drag racing etc.
Hope this helps.

Well what kind of riding do you do?? The stage 1 you can use with a stock piston, and from what I have read, its not really worth the money, if your going with a high compresion piston. I have the stage 2, JE 416 10:8.1 piston, and a rev box and I love it. It still has the same low-end grunt, and it will rev to the moon. I would go twords the stage 2 if I where you...

I do alot of trail riding but I will ride on tracks every now and then. I am getting a Wiseco 426 kit to go with the cam to.

Go with the stage 2, and a rev box. You will be happy:D

Unless you ride a lot of trails the stage 2 is the way to go.

With the overwhelming majority of people who like the stage 2,
I sometimes wonder why they even make a stage 1 and who besides me has ever used it? Seems I am the only one on
EXRiders.com who has ever mentioned (or admitted) to having a Hot Cam stage 1. Told my mechanic what kind of riding I do and how I want the bike to perform and he recomended the stage 1. Makes me think if I made a wrong choice.

I run a stage 1 also. om my stock bore but i plan on going to a stage 2 when and if i ever get my 440 together. The stage one pulls alot harder than stock my quad and my bros quad are setup pretty close to the same except my bike has a stage 1 cam his has a stock cam. I can let him start 15 feet in front of me and I catch him at the top of second gear and walk away. I think the stage 1 would be best for MX and trail riding it has more low-end mid power. The stage 2 seems to be made for the upper end of the rpm range. If you run drag or dunes get that. I think it gives more hp while the stage 1 gives more torque.
