I have been looking into getting a Chevy Silverado 4x4. The 5.3L in a reg. cab, short bed would be pretty sweet. But I also wouldn't mind having a 2500HD reg. cab long bed with the 6.0L. Is there a pretty good difference between the two? I have rode in a 5.3L and found it it be quick. But I don't know much about the 6.0L. What motor would you guys recommend? Thanks.

I have a friend that has the 8.0 liter engine. He says it has mad power but he only gets around 8 miles to the gallon. If your worried about gas mileage I wouldn't get that one. The difference in power from the 5.3 or 6.o isn't really that much of a difference unless your towing something really big but other than that I think the 5.3 would be plenty with these new engines.

friend of mine has a '01 chevy with the 5.3 says tows a 28' travel trailer with it no prob. if ur gunna tow somethin most of the time get the diesel, buy it right the first time (powerstroke). if not just get the gaser.jmo.

Well I'm gonna tell ya, the difference between the 5.3L and the 6.0L is not as big of a difference as the trucks are themselves. Your comparing a 1/2ton to a 3/4ton. The 3/4ton weights more, has a better tranny, can haul more....etc.

Drive both before you buy!

BTW, the Duramax is a GREAT diesel motor... all of this Powerstroke vs Duramax vs Cummins is like little kids fighting in school! All 3 are good diesel motors! Pick the truck you like overall!

if your looking for a truck that will blow the doors off of the new dodge hemis...get the 5.3L Vortech High Output....my dad has one, a 2002 Chevy Silverado ext. cab with the vortech 5.3....it smokes the older 5.7's and the new dodge hemis, etc. (I know, we raced it against a pimped out dodge ram hemi yesterday...we won:D )

but get the z71 package also, because it has more aggresive shocks and a heavier duty drive train, and it has a Tow/Haul Mode

My good friend's Dad just got a 2005 Dodge 2500 w/ a Cummins. The only reason he got that, was because when he researched the numbers in power, he found that Both the Chevy and ford are V6 gas conversions  . they still have the regular sized pistons that a V6 would have, and the Cummins motor is a true diesel, the guy at the Chevy dealer even told him about the conversion  .

Dont flame me, this is just what i know from his research

sorry to burst your bubble but there is no such thing. They have changed the 5.3L over the years, but no such model.

the z71 does not have heavy duty drive train. it has a skid plate, better shocks and stickers.

On our farm we have had a 5.3 before we now have a 6.0 and a 8.1. the 8.1 is mine and is in a 2500HD and the 6.0 is in a 2500LD. The 5.3 is a really good motor if the biggest thing you are going to be hauling is an open trailer with a couple quads but if you plan on towing much at all the bigger motors are better. i get just over 13 mpg with 8.1 and my dad gets right around 14 mpg with his 6.0. you can get the allison transmision with the 8.1 and just a heavy duty transmission with the 6.0. To get a deseil you will need to run about 300,000 mile to make up the price difference between it and a 8.1. I have a 28' enclosed trailer with living quarters in it. It is all the 6.0 wants and i would not even think about taking it through the mountains. The 8.1 pulls it with no problem. it actually pull the trailer much better than any diesel that has been hooked onto my trailer! But the diesel will get better fuel millage pulling the trailer. I have no idea what one you should get just stating facts that I know! on a ide note if you get the 6.0 or 5.3 (if possible) get a 410 rear gear in it. If you get the 8.1 get a 373 rear gear that will be all you need!

yeah yeah yeah I know the diesel will just be broke in at that time while the gas motor will be sorn out!!!!!!!!!!!!! But the truck it self will be worn out before that so it don't matter if the motor is good or not!
