It is a tail light. If you want a brake light you need to buy a kit on ebay, the only place I saw with a kit. I do not know if the two lights are compatible.

APK, as long as the z400 light will mount up to the same points, yes you can use it, otherwise you will have some fab work to do. You will have to get one of two things, the brake line pressure switches, or electric switches. I personally chose ATVinnovations LED taillight, along with electric switches (I didn't feel like bleeding my brakes again to install the pressure switch banjo bolts). I got the electric switch from a local dealer. I believe it is the one used for a CBR600. I had to make my own bracket to mount it though. And to keep the whole thing as compact as possible, I ran the spring from the rear switch, through the brake pedal return spring. If you still have your stock levers, you can use the electric front brake switch from almost any Honda. There are already mounting holes in your stock brake lever mount. The problem I ran into is that I switched out the fron brake lever for the ASV lever, which doesn't have the tab on it to activate the switch.

This pic was just to show the basic setup for the rear switch. For the pic I have the switch spring on the outside of the brake pedal return spring.

RytM1,
Do you have any pics of the ATVinnovations LED taillight? Does it completely replace the stock light or just the bulb and/or socket? How much $$?

I glanced at their site but didn't see anything about it.

Thanks, Joe

Joe, I can get you some pics tonight. I'll have to check the receipt, I don't remember what it cost off hand. It replaces the whole taillight.

Joe, my fault, I thought it was ATVinnovations, but after further review by the replay official, it is made by ATVeffects. Cost was $88 shipped.

Just hooked up my rear brake light. I used a spring switch (bracket and switch off a YFZ450 'cause Honda doesn't make one that fits the 400EX) attached to the rear brake lever. It looks like it came from the factory and everything cost about $50.00 - I like the LED, but you can choose any 12volt light you want.

This gives me the option of changing/undating the light!
