I just changed out my pilot jet on my 300ex form the stock 38 to a 42. The quad starts up and throttle response is much better but it seems like the quad is quieter now. Has anyone else noticed this when changing the pilot jet?

I'm not complaining but it was an unexpected result.

When I changed from a 38 to 42 pilot I definitely noticed quicker starts....but quieter?....I didn't really notice that, but I think I am a little deaf anyways, lol!

you just need to give it more gas:D

I'm thinking it's either just that the engine was lean and pinging or it's my imagination. It just seems to have a more mellow sound and less harsh sounding than before. It has plenty of bark when I'm on the gas though.

How much does the larger jet help, and did you put it on a stock 300ex? I'm thinkin mabey I sould do that.

My engine is all stock except for pipe and filter. Going up to a 42 pilot helped mostly with startup and the low end bog it had before. Since replacing the pilot jet I haven't had to use the choke once.:eek2: Before I would have to nurse the throttle for about 20 min before I could even take off. Now it's a couple minutes at most. I also noticed there's no longer any backfiring on deceleration.

I went up on my pilot jet on my 400 and removed my choke. I haven't once needed it sense than. before I went to the 416, I would have to pump the gas a few times....now I just hit the button and bam it fires. I don't know if you can remove the choke on a 300ex.....but if you can, I would do it. Every little bit of power counts;)

I haven't heard of anyone removing the choke on the 300's. I don't think I will though. It gets down close to zero here in the winter so I may need the choke then.

I ride at -20 in the winter....-65 once, and still haven't needed it. You will be fine;)

ha ha I didn't see you were in Alaska. It's nice to know mine will fire up this winter. Last winter it was a real b***h to start.
