I've been there once a year for the last 3 years, well worth the trip and going again at the end of sept. It's about 8 hours for us, where in wisconsin are you?

If you go on a weekday early in the season (like late May), you will have the place almost to yourself. Dress warm :)

The weekends can get really crowded. Watch out especially for rental jeeps and rental quads!

I've been twice this year. IMO, it's well worth the 7 hour drive for me each way.

Hey guys in Wisconsin, I don't know what it would cost, but you could take the ferry across from your state over to here. It lets you off less than an hour away from the dunes. I think it costs $85 per vehicle and like $25 or $35 a person. That wouldn't be terrible if they let a truck with 2 quads in the back of it count as only one vehicle. Just a thought.

Ok I double checked and I was way off. It is $85 round trip per person and $119 for a vehicle round trip. It does say that vehicles can't be more than 8'6" tall and 8' wide. Maybe that would be an expensive way to go. That is $289 for a truck and 2 people. Here is the web site if anyone is interested.

We looked into this and it seems alittle too pricey for us.

I had a 15 hour drive from Delaware last summer, and it was well worth it. I missed the trip this summer due to work, but I want to go back pretty bad.

The 21st or the 14th? A friend of mine was there the weekend of the 14th, and he told me that there was a nasty wreck while people were drag racing. He said that a couple of people were going over the dunes heading towards the "beach" as a race was getting started. 2 of the 3 people saw that a race had started in time, but the 3rd one didn't. I was told that the 3rd person was hit by at least 2 of the bikes, and that they ended up pinned underneath of one of the bikes. :(

Where in Wisconsin do you guys live? I live in Dodge county and I was thinking about going to Silve Lake next summer. How long does it take you to get there?

I live in grant county(southwestern most corner county). It takes us about 7.5 hrs depending on the traffic through chicago. In may we left at midnite and cut in in about 6.5 hours, We were flying though.

I live in southern Michigan so Silver lake is about 3.5 hours away. I think it's well worth the drive! Last time I went up there is was kinda crappy though because the dunes were flooded like mad. It was fun if you like riding through water though and watching people get stuck. My friend was up there on the 21st and he said that accident was pretty bad. That sucks. People are too crazy there! But besides all the misfortune, it's a lot of fun when you're careful. I crashed there back in April and got ran over with sand paddles. I got sucked up into the tire and screwed my thumb up to. But I was a trooper and rode the whole weekend!
