Im intrested in putting a drop in cam probably hot cams stage1 in my 400ex. My question does removing the decompressor make it harder to start or harder on the starter? what about after raising the compression ratio?
Thanks,
Nate

Oh and my bike is stock except hmf slipon and jetting w/k&n

with the decompression assembly removed and a higher compression piston, i was always able to get mine started. i think it may make it a little harder but with a properly adjusted carb you shouldn't have any problems. also, many of the aftermarket rev boxes make it hard to start.

also, the stage 1 cam ticks pretty loud. so, if that is going to be a concern i would look into another cam. the stage 2 is not bad at all though.

I put a stage 1 in my 400ex when i rebuilt the motor with a ross 11:1 piston and there are no problems starting at all. I have noticed that it ticks a lot louder, but nothing i cant deal with. There is a big difference in power gains and the bike does everything i want it to. although i havent tried the stage 2 yet
