They just built a HUGE MX track near my house. Would like to buy either a yfz,or a trx. I just want it to play around the track on after work.Don't plan on doing a whole lot of modifications either. Other then maybe an axle, exhaust ect. I just want it to hold up well, and have fun on it.

Please don't turn this into a flame fest, I'm not trying to make trouble with this post. Just some owner feed back, and people that have experience with both machines.

if you are just going to play around then i say yfz because of the electric start.

Get the YFZ450. Alittle bit more power and is a better all around MX'r.

I dont know man, I like the YFZ better to jump, but the 450R does soo much better through the whoops that its a toss up. Go for the YFZ, easier to start. :blah:

i say 450r, the ones ive seen out on mx tracks so far are doing very well, plus im not that much of a fan of the yfz after seeing some catch on fire and hearing about it

I ride a 426 bike, I can kickstart whatever you put infront of me:)

Anyone here own both bikes? What one is better for a larger pilot?

08-02-2004, 12:14 PM
I own a YFZ but have ridden a 450r a little. I just want to answer you lager pilot question! the honda will fit a bigger or at least taller rider better. more of a laid back rider will like the honda better more of an agresive rider will like the YFZ slightly better in most cases!

the honda hands down,

YFZ
if ya install some X Factor pro pegs which lowers the peg a touch, and install atleast a +1 stem it will suit a taller/larger rider just fine:macho

my pegs are lowered and I have a plus 2 stem and the Honda still fits me better. But I am sticking with the YFZ

id say the yfz, the honda is taller, and the one i rode was real tipsy i thought. so just for handling reasons id say the yfz, powerwise there pretty similar i guess

I personally prefer the YFZ over the 450R for various different reasons - and it's not a Honda vs. Yamaha thing either...

I'd advise you to ride them both and see which suits your needs best.

they both have advantages and diadvantages for instance...off the floor the yfz is a better MX quad, but if you adjust the shocks on the 450r its just as good for MX....the 450r off the floor is a better GNCC quad....but if you adjust the shocks on the YFZ it can be just as good, see what im saying....pick your color and your brand and you've made a good choice either way!

I have good dealers for both now, guess I'll just have to see what I like better in person. Been buying yamaha's as of late, but I don't dislike honda's either.

cheap *******s wont use 93 octane thats why the cranks are going or so yamaha says

the 450r is about as race ready as a 400ex....the yfz can win mx bone stock, there is a ton of 450rs are around here none really impress me but i see stock y fzs just killing some really worked quads....

the 450r is the best xc quad the yfz is the best mx quad, now if your not serious about racing but would like to hit the track occasionally and do some trails youd liek the 450r but if your gonan go out and ride mx all the time the yfz is way ahead of the game, ready to go out of the box, awesome suspension geometry is perfect....fast...

OMG!!!! 5 cases? They better recall them. J/k. Seriously though...5 cases is a very low percentage of total yfz's out there. I like them both but I'd have to go with the yamaha if I was buying one. I think the 450r is still taller after adjusting the stock suspension. Just go to the yamaha dealer, get the yfz, stop at the gas station, then head to the track. You'll be happy.

I have a few other bikes for trailriding ect, this one would be mainly for this track, and one other track near my house.

I have a wr426 (12.5 to 1), I mix the gas 3 gallons 94 octane, and 2 gallons 110 torco in a five gallon can. You should run at least 96 in the yfz I believe.

I'm just affraid about breaking the swingarm on the yfz, and I've seen a few crf450r motors go up too. Everyone races them and loves them up here though.

Im starting to lean toward the yammie, but If I got a better deal, I'll go with the honda.

im 6'1 and I dont have a problem feeling small on my yfz. the egros just feel better on my yfz then my friends 450R. but the R lets you make more mistakes. Its also real easy to stal the yfz out!

its your choice. I say yfz for MX, R for woodies

BTW i only use 100 + octane
