Fall Festival Race @ Kelly Mountain

Today's race was just plain fun! The Koontz promotors had a spectacular turn out with a few surprises thrown in!

Just shy of 100 quads entered todays event. The course was pretty sloppy in spots but appeared to hold together for the most part.

Chris Jenks grabbed the holeshot in the Pro class, with the Sturdivant boys coming on strong in hot pursuit!

I believe thats Todd Knippenberger#9 alongside #165 Brandon Sturdivant all trying every move they can to get out front

#170 Brent Sturdivant got shoved to the outside and had his work cut out to stay with the leaders

David Collins charging hard at the start. he had a fast 1st lap followed by a problem filled second lap dropping him out of the race

B class start had a new black 450R screaming to the front of the pack!

A combined class start with C class 22-29 had my very own little brother (blue 400) banging bars thru the first turn with the blaster:eek: He did great, finishing his first ever ATV race by taking 7th in his class:D Way to go lil'bro:macho

30+ class had Bobby McCauley grabbing the holeshot and riding his Suzuki to the class win!

By jumping the ditch instead of following the easier line, Brent was able to pass these 3 riders and make up time. Brent can be seen just dropping out of the picture to the left

I couldnt understand why anyone would blindly drop down into this ditch. That is until after this picture when i spotted 4 or 5 kids directing riders to it:grr: I mentioned to them that if it was me i'd get off the quad and use them as traction

they suckered this predator rider, and when he gave them a look of death they stopped:p

This area of the course drew the crowds. there are a million ways thru this creek and right after that a mudhole that would make any mud-monkey pop wood:macho

Pre track inspection led Brandon Sturdivant to a new line when the others became choked with stuck riders.


How did i know he would emerge from there? Because he told me to watch that line if the others were blocked:cool:

i learned today that people will throw themselves in the mud just to have thier picture posted on exriders:devil:

as the "fall guys" laughed at thier mishap, this R rider damn near turned them into traction

Scot Schroyer finished 2nd in 22-29 c class

2 up and coming youth XC riders (L) Kyle Riley & (R) Cody Cooper watched the action in the creek bed. Both these boys will be household names in the GNCC series in about 7 years:macho

9th place in Expert B went to Steve Kiggins

Cliffton ware went home with wood by taking the 3rd place spot in c class 16-21

hey pappy howd you like that holeshot, in c22-29 , best holeshot this year and it had to be on someone elses quad, a bone stock one at that. Nice pics too! Could of got a better one on my start i'd had it framed, lol jk its cool too have someone like you taking pics for us.

Chino, Did you start beside a yellow Z. I am almost positve I started beside you.

This was my first race and was having a blast until i put it over in a creek and bent my tie rod on the first lap. I did not even complete that lap. I was letting people by just to get to the top of the hill climb into the field to park it. There was no way to keep it out of the trees. lol. I will try it again next spring.

I was just looking at the pictures you posted and they are excellent!! What camera did you use to take these pics?

You got some awesome pics of my bro in law (James Green). He races Quad Expert B.. And took first place in his class at Kelly Mountain. Thats him in pic 127 and 165.

If that is the one on August 28th, I think I will try to make it. I have been snowboarding there a couple of times and we go bird hunting in Canaan Valley every fall, so it would be awesome to race there.

Hey Pappy great pictures, I was there too, just not racing. Im good friends with Nick #236(red and black raptor) and Jordan forget #(red and white YFZ with works shocks, huge red MSR handguards).

I was there with a cannon recorder and was wearing a shift hat and spy orange shirt, did I talk to ya?

I remeber talking to your brother(blue 400, TCS shocks.)

I think that is going to be my first race that I will race. I have been to 2 races there already, and know the track. Just need to go out there, and git-r-done.

Anyways good pics, and can't wait for you to take a pic of me.(Ill be on a all black Raptor)
