i just bought a 2002 honda 400ex , it was used, it looks great and rides great, and usually runs great, but i noticed when i start it, for the first 5 minutes or so of ridin it smokes really bad, whats wrong with it or do they all do that, i just changed the oil and filter too. thanks!

Valve seals;) Don't worry about it....As long as it stops smokin, your fine. If not, than your rings are going out. I have talked to people who have replaced them, and it starts smokin a couple months later. My buddys 400 does the same thing.

thanks again... do you have any idea what i can do then to make it stop smokin or burnin oil or should i just take it to the shop and tell them to fix it, or just go ahead and replace the rings, if that helps at all? I have only had it for about a week and i am still tryin to learn as much as i can about it, is it one of those fourwheelers that just uses oil fast or somethin? thanks
