I have a question. I have thought long and hard, and I really want to break into my motor, even with 3 months left on my warranty. I want to know how to get a ton of horsepower out of it. I was thinking of installing a pair of hotcams, a new race piston. And porting and polishing the motor. I also want to run it off of alcohol or a very high octane gas. Give me some insight on what to look for when choosing a motor specialist, and whatnot. Anything you want to tell me feel free to. Also id like to let you know that this will be solely used as a drag racing quad #1...then some sand riding every now and then. And maybe like a mile or two a day around the house quad. Please help me however you can. Thanks. -Michael

it matters where you live. and how long you want to wait. i know duncan racing does wonders to the yfz-450

I don't trust hotcams at all. If I were you, I'd get LRD cams, Sparks, or TC, Sparks preferred. If you want a really nice running YFZ get a 14:1 piston, heavy port and polish, cams, maybe stroke it to a true 450, get a clutch, run it on 110 or 112 octane race gas, 5 angle valve job, oversize valves... I think that's about it. lol Get all of that, you'll have a b!tchen YFZ.

Thanks man. Give me some prices on that if I let Sparks do everything. Id appreciate it. Also could I do anything myself, not really knowing much about motors, or would it be safer to let Sparks do everything?

Just buy a service manual, they tell you how to do everything and have pictures to match, afterall, it beats waiting a year for Sparks to do all of your engine work.;)

I haven't done much checking but I have heard the Sparks takes a long time.

I have checked with LRD and they are only 1-2 weeks and they do it all.
I was thinking about doing a bunch on motor work but I MX and XC a lot so I decided to go with long travel with Axis shocks and some other stuff instead. But I did get there 12.8 piston from LRD and the Pro 4 exhaust.

How much will Tom port and polish my motor for? And add a high comp piston, say a 14:1... ? Also whats the turnaround time? thanks.

TC would be a good way to go for sure. Sparks the last I knew wasn't even accepting motors they were so far behind. TC also usually has quite a wait. If your looking to have a good motor without the wait, look at GT Thunder. I know he has a 470 kit...

Why dont you trust Hotcams but trust the others? Who do you think builds the other cams? Webcams is the only other major option. Generally speaking if Sparks, LRD, or anyone else is honest you will hear their cams are one or the other(hotcams/webcams). Check the specs, theyre are near identical if not identical.

Tom at Tc is great to talk to. He will tell you everything he can do for you and prices. He and Sparks build alot of the pro riders motors, more than LRD, or Duncan from what I have seen.

LRD's cams are made by WEB cams if you didn't know, hotcams are actually good cams, don't let the price fool ya.;)
