O.K. I heard that 450r shocks work on a 400ex but does anyone have an opinion on how they perform?

Try doing a search on this subject. They will bolt up, but a lot of the shock experts say it shouldn't be done.

Do whatever you want but I wouldn't suggest it because they are not setup for a 400EX and will evenutally your ball joints will go bad from the use of 450R shocks.

From what I hear this occurs because the 450R has about 1/3" more travel. I'm going to buy some 450R shocks but I plan on taking out this excess travel with a thick washer. Basically raising the rubber shock stop up so it absorbs the extra travel. This probably won't completely eliminate the problem but it will be better than having the ball joints take the complete jolt when you bottom out.

400ex28, If keep your eye on the for sale forum here and ebay you can see the shocks come up for sale. Slightly used ones usually sell for between $200 - $225 (fronts).
