I've got a buddy who's running elka piggybacks set up just the way I want them. Soon he's going to be switching to long travel and extended a-arms and selling the piggy's. More than likely I'll pick those up, but at the same time I want to upgrade my rear suspension. I was thinking of sending in the rear shock to elka to be converted. I like the idea of the ressie not being mounted on the frame. What are the advantages/disadvantages to the conversion? Should I just go with the real elka rear?

If you have the cash go with the real deal think about the linkage also if not the conversion is deffinatly a huge improvement over stock I have had the conversion for 3 years .

Cash is the key word. What's the price difference in the two?

Brand new elka duel rate rear will be close to 800 bucks if I'm not mistaken. The conversion is around 350. DeRisi also does a conversion for around 400 buck, but I don't know if it's an elka conversion.

The conversion will be fine for you. Make sure if you want to run the rear linkage that you get it set up for it first otherwise the rear wont handle right...

Do you mean the long travel linkage or the stock linkage?

I think he means the long travel gt thunder/elka linkage. I'd go for the gt thunder, it's little cheaper, and a great product too.

It's not only price but also turn around and customer service. If I don't have a rear shock for a month that's a lot of riding hours I miss. I hear great things about elka's service and also I want to keep the companies the same.

I sent mine to quadshop about 2 weeks ago for the elka conversion, and it's on it's way back right now. So I'm looking at about a 2 1/2 week turn around.

If you have the money buy the full new rear Elka. The rebuild is good, but the whole new shock would be better. If you got the Elka linkage as well, it would be a huge difference.
