Shifter Adjustment

On my bike it feels like the shifter travel is twice as much on my bros bike. His is stock mine has an after market shifter just wanted to see if I could get the shift a little shorter.

I bet your shifter is a longer design, so it takes more travel to shift. A shorter shifter would solve this.

Do you mean that the shifter actually travels twice as far in order actually shift the gears, or it seems like you have to reach farther to actually reach the shifter? If its the later, note where the shifter sits on the splines, take the bolt out of the shifter, remove the shift lever, and rotate it one spline counterclockwise. Put the bolt back in and see how it feels.
