The YFZ (quad) has an extremely restrictive exhaust (see pee shooter) where the bike has a pretty much open system, much like that of an aftermarket exhaust. This is also why a bike gains very little in terms of pwer by adding an aftermarket exhaust.

could you use the bike exhaust on the quad?

Well, seeing that Yamaha thinks its parts are made of gold and price them accordingly, It would be a better idea to just buy an aftermarket exhaust (slip on) that is designed for the quad motor.

The YFZ is basically a WR450f motor, not a YZF. Although with YZ cams, cam timing, and aftermarket pipe, the motor becomes very YZF like. Even the cam mod on the stock cams is very effective. ;)
