aight, we adjusted the valves so its not a ticking noise. its like a chatter noise in the top end... BUT it will come and go whenever it wants to..i have no clue what it is, but there has been no power loss. its like a chatter noise.. hard to explain, but do any of you know what it could be?

are you positive it is the motor? on my old 300ex ex when i would get into the higher rpms i would hear a loud chatter/rattle. well it was my skidplate vibrating off the frame. just check to see if it is your skids or nerfs making the noise. if it is definitly the motor im not sure what that could be

Like ny300exrider said, check your skid plates or nerfs ect. When I installed my body skid I heard some noises due to one of the straps not being tight enough.

At a certain rpm, my front brake lever wil rattle a bit. Putting my hand on it stops it.

Is your idle high enough? Start to feel arond on things. Touch things like the carb, head, levers, etc, to see if the noise stops. It may be the plastics or tank also.

well.. i think we found the problem.. we opend up the top cover on the motor.. and the exhaust rocker is like loose acting.. and whenever we moved it fast.. it would make that same chatter noise.. but idk

well if your positive its from the top 1/2 of the motor, a bearing could be going out, or the timing chain tentioner could be stuck and the chain in hitting something.-darren
edit-a bit too late.-darren

my 400 has been doing that since the day we bought it home from the dealer. if i tap the throttle just a bit it goes away. but it seems to do this only at idle.
