At what point would a person benefit from an aftermarket CDI/rev limiter? I just purchased a FMF Powercore full exhaust have the K&N filter and will be jetting would I see any benefit or should I wait til I do some internal engine mods?

Instinct says that after the pipe and jetting the motor will rev higher but I don't know if the stock box will be able to handle what I will get from the pipe and jetting.

do you think there is any power to be made beyond the stock limit with a stock cam:confused:

you honestly dont need a higher rev CDI unless u have a higher compression piston. if u dont the only other reason i could see getting one is if u want to advance ur timing

on a 300ex, i have no idea. on a 400ex, you won't benefit from one.

It sounds like the benefit I might gain is negiligable(sp?) and to basically just try it. Maybe when this motor is on its last leg I will jump to a 330 or something but for riding woodsy trails I wouldnt need the extra power unless I goto a track or more open trails. Thanks for the comments and somewhat advise oh and you too pappy (i think). We should start calling you Yoda always trying to spread wisdom through making the other person find his/her own answer or what is best for them. :D

i would say you wont benfit from one yey, the stock cam is very low and mid oriented so even with a good exhaust and filter, you still wouldnt be making enuff power on top to need a higher rev limit.

and FYI, no one makes an aftermarket rev limiter for a 300ex, your only option is to send your rev limiter to be modifed, only dwon fall is with this, you wont have any rev limiter at all, but if you know when to shift, it shouldnt be an issue.

i beleive gthunder does the mod for 75 bucks

So from what you are saying I can remove the rev limiter and have no rev limit. So why do people run a rev limiter if it isn't needed?

The rev limiter is in the CDI box, so you can't just remove it. Yo can modify the box, by hooking it up to a machine to change, or even remove the limit. It just changes the little computer thing inside the box. A popular mod is to get a 350x CDI box. I have heard that this box helps the ignition curve, and it has no rev limit! Just be careful not to overrev your motor if you do this.

I have a JE 416 piston at 10.8:1 compression ratio, and a Hotcam stage 2 camshaft. After mods like those, you'll see better results with the Rev box. I chose to go with GT thunder,it seems to be the best one available currently. Also, the GT thunder rev box is tiny :D

honda puts one on from the factory so people dont blow there motors up.

on a basicly stock 300ex like yours, max HP is made well b4 the rev limit, so if your hitting it, your shifting way too late anyway

I'm not hitting it but just don't want to leave anything on the table. I don't believe now that having mine modded will benefit me til I do more intense motor work. I never realized there was sooo much to a little motor.
