Hey. I don't understand all this boring and sleeving bit. When installing a 416 or 426 piston do you bore the stock sleeve? When installing a 440 with a sleeve do you have to bore your cylinder wall to fit the sleeve?

Anything from a 406, 416, 426 will just require boring out your stock sleeve. The 440 kit however requires a different sleeve, you press out the old one or you can bore it out either way will usually work. Next you have to heat up the cylinder to about 350-400 degrees farenheit for about 3 1/2-4hrs in like a big oven like machine shop would have. Next take cylinder out and and sit it on 2 blocks one on each side and make sure its high enough off of the surface which you have it on and just drop your new sleeve in. Next set a brick or something heavy on top of it (sleeve) to keep in the cylinder and let it cool for about an hour.

Quadmxracer. You did a really good job explaining that. The only thing that I would add is that you can put the 426 piston in the stock sleeve after boring it but must people resleeve the bike for the 426 kits. I install alot of 416 kits in the stock sleeve you just have to bore it .080 over but it is a really reliable kit.

Is .080 over as big a bore you would go in a stock sleeve? Do you have to bore the cylinder to get the 440 sleeve in or will it fit in the stock bore after the factory sleeve has been punched out?

88mm is the largest piston on a stock sleeve and the cylinder has to be bored to accept the oversize sleeve.
