I have done a few mods to my 450 and am looking to find aftermarket valve springs. I have put on a Pro Circuit T4 exhaust, Hot Cams Stage 2 cam, and a JE piston 13.8:1 piston. I am also not exactly sure on jetting, i am running a 210 main and a 52 pilot. I am also running a 50/50 mix of 91 and 110 octane fuel. any suggestions would be appreciated.

the 450r uses shims, not springs right?

The under bucket shims are what the springs use, so yah it has springs.

210 main!!!
I have HRC cam, 13.8:1 JE, Sparks pipe and filter, and 113 octane VP late model+. I'm running a 185 main. Had to go up 1 size from a 182 after the weather started to get hot. Runs great and nice plug color. Double check that you need that big of a main jet.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't too much fuel wash the remaining oil off the cylinder wall (that the rings don't scrape), then the rings/cylinder wear faster.

Jetting depends on the altitude of where you live, I believe the higher the altitude the leaner (smaller main jet) you will hve to run your machine. It doesn't matter if someone in death valley is running a 330 main, you may only need 185!:p

I understand all the altitude adjusting. He is showing to be from Missouri. I'm in Arkansas, which is close to the same terrain. I'm barely above sea level, so he shouldn't have much different jetting. Unless he's up in the mountains, then it'll be an even smaller main than mine.

I'm not sure what you will gain by going with new valve springs but I would start by talking to Ron Hamp http://www.ronhamp.com/portal/DEFAULT.ASP

I'm running a 190 main jet with airbox lid off and Sparks filter.
How do you like the high-compression piston? Did it help the low-end? How about heat... does it run hotter?

I love it. Lots of low end, and didn't lose anything on top end like I've heard about the higher compression piston doing. It pulls hard all the way through. Going with a higher comp piston will run hotter. Since I use the 113 VP Late Model +, and just a tad rich, it stays cool enough. Engine ice in the radiator as well. Plenty of results with a $200 mod.

Yes, i really do like my piston. it does improve low end a lot and it does pull a lot harder the whole time. i have header wrap on my exhaust and i run watter wetter in the coolant so it doesnt really run hot. the only reason that i am asking about valve springs, is that it sounds to me that the valves are floating. with a stiffer valve spring it should make the valves shut faster. i have a stage 2 hot cam and it has a lot of lift on the lobes.

in hot weather you run the bike leaner due to the air being less dense. same with allitude. the higher you go the thinner it is.
