That is s**ty. I would say to take the quad to the dealer and make the replace it even if you are out of warranty. I think Honda would honor it even if it was out of warranty, especially if you are not racing. I would be extremely po'ed about it. I need to check mine. Gonna have to do it tomorrow.

When your sitting on the bike the left hand side.. you have the frame that runs up along right underneath the gas tank on both sides you will see the top engine mount that runs back and connects to the frame right behind that towards the rear of the quad theres a weld right there!!

All stock frames, from every manufacturer, will at one point or another break under normal to hard riding circumstances. I do find it funny though, that all the yahoos that blasted the YFZ for seeing ONE frame break are suddenly silent.

Ummmmm, crow taste good, huh?

Jeff,

I can't argue with that. Maybe the other manufacturers will eventually try to go the alluminum route. Cannondale was before there time. Too bad they didn't have the financial backing of one of the big three. Hopefully ATK will make it.

I'm not impressed with the paint or decals.I use a cheap harbor freight power washer and paint is flaking off,up front by the model/year sticker.Chain adjust decal gone as well as the honda decal behind seat.:(

Everyone went totally off when this happened to the Z400 time and time again, and merely 1 YFZ. Things break on all machines so does this mean Hondas are garbage now too? I love it.
Yummmmmmm, crow!!!! Tastes great, less filling I bet. Now we know who the real manufacturer is and who puts out garbage, or however is was put over the past 2 years.

Anyone thats frame has cracked could you state what kind of riding you do, and What major mods you have done to your bike. Like suspension etc. It may help us to get an idea of how and why its happening. Thanks

Yes, it's at LRD to see if they can fix the issue, but starting to get bad vibs talking with their guru and may not be able to repair!

I stated "well start fixing a check in my name"

I not worried because when I ride at plaster city and stuff on their tracks I don't see much stuff to worry about in concern of the frame breaking I was out there on saterday beating the crap out of my 450r and it hasn't cracked at all. I wouldbe concerned if I was going to do hardcore baja racing then I would consider getting frame redone.

every frame on the market will break and or bend at one time or another....the 450r is not in any way a fragile quad so buy it and ride it as hard as you can and if it breaks IT BREAKS call up honda they will replace it honda is good about such things!

I think all frames will eventually crack but good communication in forums like this will help with places to gusset frames for racing conditions. Places like Roush Creek will destroy any frame gusseted or not! We have a spare frame to gusset after evaluating stress areas in the one we're running now.

Honda did evaluate the 400EX frame and gusseted in known problem areas on the 450r This area has never given a problem on the 400. I'm sure Honda will take care of our frame and fix the problem area in the future!

hey jeff ive cracked my cdale frame:( but its is where the subframe mounts and broke the subframe on the other side. gonna have my uncle weld it cause thats what he does that and machining but yes every type of frame aftermarket or stock will eventually break

it took us almost 500 miles across the nevada dezert to brake our frame. its broke down by the right foot peg and the sub frame is craked where it bolts the the main frame.

stock frames suck, well they don't suck but an aftermarket frame is made to take the abuse better.

yfz frames break

these frames seem to be breaking

z400's break

they all do it's just a matter of how hard u push the machine, weight of the rider, and if the fool working in production missed a bad part or two or three or a thousand!?!

so far the only thing i have craked on my yfz after a year of hard racing is the swing arm

I have seen aftermarket frames break, too. Ask Popo, he will tell you. If you race GNCCs or MX, you will eventually break a frame, whether it is stock frame or aftermarket. Plus, if you constantly case jumps or overjump landings and flat land, well duuuuuuhhhhh, you will break frames.

I weigh 260 and my frame is holding up fine SO FAR. I hit jumps and fly around through the wood, I also wreck every once in a while. Besides a few scrapes she's all good. Don't be scared to rip it, she can take a lot of punishment.

I have checked over my frame pretty good since this issue has been brought up. I haven't found any cracks yet. I don't do much jumping, but I do hammer through the woods running over some pretty rough stuff.

Some people arent RICH and want to get something good for 6499!!! INSTED OF BLOWING IT ON SOMETHING THATS GONNA REQUIRE MORE MONEY IN THE FURTURE (being weak broken parts)

I also also jsut beat my frame to death. I have over shot a 45ft step up by 30ft, Ive landed horrable off jumps, I have rolled it in the dunes, etc. I checked my bike over again for the subframe and frame. Im seeing no weak spots at all.

Maybe it had a bad weld at that point. That seems to be a possibility. Otherwise from what i see this frame is holding up better than can ever be expected of it for a MILD STEEL frame.

If you actually chose to buy the yfz over the trx because your worried about reliability of the Honda, your retarded. Almost all stock frames are made of mild steel. They will break. The only quad that i have seen with a frame problem was the first 400z.
