Will a 250R rear shock mount on a Blaster? Silly question, but I am curious.

Yes, but I think you might have to do some little modifications...I know that a 400EX rear shock will mount up, you don't use the linakge though. I just bought a rear shock on eBay for a friend with a Blaster, bolted it on and he said he loves it. He does a lot of freestyling so he said it works great for jumps.

Thanks Toadz. I got a buddy with a blaster. That's why I was curious.

No problem. If you got anymore questions about Blasters you could PM flyin#5, he's the one with the Blaster and he's taken it apart and put it back together and messed with it so many times, he's got to know everything by now.

As for the rear shock thing, it should bolt right up if it's pretty much the same thing as the 400EX shock.

Both are not direct bolt ups, with the 250r rear shock, The bottom mount has to be reamed (drilled out) and with the 400ex shock, the bottom needs to be reamed out, while the top needs a spacer to fit.

Heres a how to by Flyin5:

For those of you looking to put a 400ex rear shock on your yamaha blaster please read below, and read carefully! if you have any questions ask me and i will probably be able to answer!

here is the shock compared to the stock one, not much difference in length at all.

first step:remove stock shock, use a hydrolic jack so you can jack it up just right to easily get the bolts out. (no brainer, but this is for some less experienced also).

Next you have to do some hole reaming (making them bigger). your best bet is to use a drill press for this, just makes it easier, and a not so choppy hole.

here is the top bolt with the 400ex top spacer on it, it will fit over the threads, but not over the big part, this is why you need to make a different spacer, or drill this one out.

bottom mount, sorry about the pic. notice the pin is a little to big.

on the bottom mount i used a 31/34 size bit, i know its not metric, but this seemed to be the perfect fit for the bottom pin, and made it much easier to get out than with the stock shock. drill both holes out, i would suggest doing each hole seperatly, dont just go all the way through, chances are you dont have it perfectly level and the one hole will control where the bit goes. if you drill each side seperatly the bit should find the center, or very close to the center of the hole.

sock set up on the drill press. its really easy drilling through the aluminum.

here it is all reamed out

we made a middle spacer for strenght also. not really nessecary, but its just more comforting knowing you have all the supports you can have.

for the top mount you will either need to drill out the 400ex spacer, or make your own. drilling it out would be extremly hard with any drills and drill bits most of you would have. its a hardend steel. my dad put the stock 400ex spacer on the lathe and it we had to sharpen the cutting tools quite a bit. it would be much easier to make your own. just got to a place that has metal, get a piece with the same OD (outside diameter) then punch a hole in the middle and drill the ID (inside diametere) to the diameter of the top bolt.

here is ours.

if you have a stock airbox you will need to shave off some of the airbox, and you will not be able to use the lid, or you will have to shave some of that away aswell. not a hard thing to do if you have a jigsaw.

your ready to bolt it up now, just put the bottom pin in, then raise the jack up until the hole lines up and put the top bolt on.

Now for the 250R rear shock, It does work on a blaster, but do not get anything before an 87' because they are even longer. The upper part of it mounts right in, but the bottom will not. You can either ream it out to fit the appropriate bolt, or you can make a spacer. I would reccomend a 400ex shock, as they are newer and can most likely be found easier.

Yea that's the shock I bought for flyin#5. He said it worked pretty damn good on his Blaster, I have yet to ride it to see how it feels compared to his stock one.

Mike you crazy Mexican, will you ever stop messing with your Blaster and just ride?!:D

Thanks guys! Now what about 400EX fronts? See, I had elka fronts for a 400 and a custom Axis rear for an R. My friend wants the rear but was asking about the fronts too. Is that even possible? Thanks again!

I don't think it'd benefit him much unless he had extended a-arms, 400EX shocks are longer than Blaster shocks.
