ticking

[400ex owns]

when i start up my 02 400ex if i dont rev it enough it ticks really quickly until the engine is warm once the engine is warm it kinda makes a whistling noise is this the vavles?

im 80% sure its your valves...could also be your piston rings? any smoke coming from exhaust?

nope there is no smoke coming from my pipe i would be burning ALOT of oil if it wqere my rings woulnd't i? and if i dont get the vavles adjusted will it hurt my wheeler because i've been driving with the noise for 3 mounths now and nothing has happend??

i would definately get the valves adjusted. the whining noise is common with the 400ex's. i think it was the oil pump but i am not 100% sure.

That whining noise is common. Check the valve clearances (sp) to the manual's specs

yeah 400ex's are weird like that?
my buddy just rebuilt his and it ticks super loud. the valves are dead on and there is no smoke. it runs great to hha oh well?
