Rausch Creek MX Park in Tremont, PA hosted the final 6 hour of ATV America event of the season with the two prior events held in Georgia and Texas.

John Pellan added these three 6 hour races this year to give teams a chance to test their endurance and team work before competing in the 12 hours of America, which will be in Iowa on October 30th. Also, up for grabs was free entry into the 12 Hour event with a win in your class at any of the six hour events excluding the Pro Class.

John Pellan greeted riders as they registered for the Event :)

When John Pellan picked Rausch Creek as one of his track locations, He made an excellent choice. The "Dream Team" Quin Lickman and Mike McDonald once again out did themselves in advertising for the event, preparing the track, and keeping things orderly.

It is great to have two people so dedicated to the racing community. Also, Rausch Creek put together some extra money for the Pro Purse which was not even expected, so the next time you decide to go riding think of riding at a place that takes care of it riders, Rausch Creek MX Park.

It rained several times the week before the race, which was extremely welcomed rain to help keep the dust down during the long six hour race. Rausch Creek rebuilt a section of their outdoor MX track and made it wide enough for quads to easily race side by side. The track was in perfect condition and the water crew was out Saturday Afternoon wetting down the track one last time before the race.

The Pit area was along a gravel road which worked great to keep the dust down and was situated with a great view of the MX portion of the track.

The East Coast ATV Team (Chris Borich, John Natalie Jr, and Matt Smiley) was basically the same team that won the 12 Hours of America last year as Team Hiper except Mike Krachun was replaced with GNC Pro MX racer John Natalie Jr who has been having an incredible season.

Matt Smiley was geared up early for the race since he was going to be the first rider to hit the track.

Hellbound Racing Team (Randy Lehr, Donald Lysinger, and Olsen) was also ready to compete in the Pro Class as Chuck Lehr made some double checked their machine before the race.

With the Course being over 6 miles long, Donald Lysinger and Randy Lehr decided it would be easier to bicycle the course.

The course itself included at a mile long MX track and then the riders heading into the woods. They quickly encountered a high speed run down a fire road type triail which was extremely fast and rough in sections, but it was pretty straight and went for about 1/2 mile. The course then became tighter and offered different lines for the riders to take through sections of the track. Their were numerous expert lines with steep drop offs and inclines which made it interesting. Also, at the 3.5 mile marker the course seperated into three different lines and each was almost a mile or more long, which was very cool. The key was to find the fastest line or find the line with the least amount of traffic to pass the slower riders. One line was shorter, but wasn't as fast as some of the other lines.

The multiple lines were awesome, which was something I wished they had more of at GNCC events.

C&D Racing's Own Dusty Kostman made the trip from Nebraska after having so much fun at the 1st round in Texas. Dusty wouldn't be racing in this one, but she was an awesome help in the pits. She was quick to grab my impact and start putting on my front tires before the race, which was one of the coolest thing to watch.

She prepared to pit for EXriders.com 30+ Team and C&D Racing's B Team, which was going to keep her busy through out the day, so she decided to take a break before the race and relax in the shade.

Every Quad that entered the race had to go through Tech Inspection. Tom Prendergast marked everyones frame before the race because that was the only part that couldn't be swapped out during the race. If your frame cracked, you had to weld it or quit the race.

Tom explained how the race was going to be run to one of the Utility teams.

JB Racing's Jathan Seale came into GNCC racing this year with avengence in Texas with a 12th Overall in his 1st GNCC event that I am aware off and has only finished two races all season worst than 14th overall:eek: . Not only is he an incredible XC racer, but he is also an awesome TT racers as well with several top finishes in GNC TT Series.

Congratulations on such a great racing season:macho

Another Member of the JB Racing Team, Jeremy Rice, also has had a stellar GNCC season and is currently leading the Pro Am Class in points with his other racing partner, Chris Jenks in 2nd Place. This team definitely was going to pack a punch with some great talent, but they weren't the only dynamic Pro team!

Admin
07-19-2004, 09:47 AM
The East Coast ATV Team was also full of talent with Chris Borich, Matt Smiley, and John Natalie Jr.

Chris Borich finished the GNCC 2nd overall last year on his 250R, and his transition to the 4 Stroke hasn't been trouble free which has kept him off the podium several times this year, but his father, Joe Borich, is very persistant and dedicated to his son's success, and I am certain they will get the winning combination together soon enough.

Even with many would call a rough season for Chris, others would only dream of having a season like his in the GNCC Series. Chris still has only finished two races out of the top 8 overall and is currently running 5th Overall for the season. His other XC racing Partner #5 Matt Smiley is having another consistant year with several top three Overall finishes and is currently running 3rd Overall in the GNCC Series.

#13 John Natalie Jr rounded out the East Coast Team, and he has been having an incredible season. John Natalie Jr. has grown so much as a rider over the past year and it has shown leaps and bounds on the track. He went 1-1 at Mt. Morris even after having a cracked headpipe in the 2nd Moto. John never gives up and puts everything he has into racing, and is a great competitor. It is awesome to see him sitting in 2nd Place in Points in the GNC series behind Doug Gust!

Congratulations John a great Season!

Tyson Thomas, Tyler Lenig, and Tim Lenig teamed up to race the six hour race and this was another awesome team with plenty of talent.

I have had the oppurtunity to race with Tyler and get to know him over the past couple of years, and I am very impressed with his how fast he is developing into a great racer. His brother Tim also is another fast rider that just doesn't have the time to devote to racing anymore, but hits the races that he can.

Tyson Thomas rode for Cannondale when they formed their race team two years ago, but now he also hasn't had the time to hit all the events like he would like, and it seems like he can't have any luck when he does get the chance to show up.

Team Quadshop(John Rowling, Marty Eckert, Fred Mudd) signed up for the PRO Class which was a big leap for them considering none of them ever raced Pro. They are a talented group of XC riders, so I knew that they would still be able to hold their own.

John Rowlings was choosen to be the one to start the race!

A Class "Team 2 Stroke"(Brett Shettle, Bryan Riley, Jason McCauslin) was a group of local riders who aren't heavily involved in racing, but they thought the 6 hour team race looked like a lot of fun.

Jason McCauslin works at Ray Willts in Hanover, PA which is has been one of my sponsor for years and a great place to buy a quad since they sell every brand(Honda, Suzuki, Yamaha, and Kawaski) Jason has been taking my phone orders for parts for the last two years and has done an excellent job. I am very thankful for Ray Wilts support and Jason's great customer service.

C&D Racing's Colby Kostman gave everyone at EXriders.com the thumbs Up! Colby & Dusty have really helped EXriders.com grow over the past year with their support which was provided by EXriders.com members choosing them as their online parts supplier. They are a great group of people and I am very pleased to have them involved in helping me acheive my dream of having one of the best online ATV websites.

If it weren't for C&D Racing and the many other fine sponsors, EXriders.com couldn't afford to provide the race coverage and information, so think of them on your next purchase.

The GNCC Senior Riders John Kenney Sr. and John Cunnigham Jr. were originally planning on racing together as a team, but family plans changed the situations at the last minute Johns Mobile Service Race Team was formed with John Kenney Jr, John Cunnigham Jr., and Steve Cunningham to compete in the B Class on Kenney's 450R.

John Kenney Jr. is probably a familar face to many that race on ITP Tires in the GNCC Series because he is normally at the trailer helping mount and dismount tires before the races. The Kenney & Cunningham families are a great group of family racers.

Tom Prendergast is the Official Ref for the ATV of America races is a very easy going guy before and after the race, but once the race starts he is one to go by the book. He doesn't tolerate cheating or breaking the rules in anyway, and he made it extremely clear to all the riders before the race. John Pellan definitely chose the right guy for the position.

The ATV of America races are scored like no other ATV race that I have been too in the past. They utilized transponders that were mounted to the ATV, which automatically scored the riders when they crossed the finish line each lap. This was awesome because the scoring didn't take away from the race. Hopefully, this scoring will eventually be used in other racing events.

As the race went on, the Pit Crews looked on eagerly at the riders flying into view to see if their rider would be heading into the pits for repair or a new rider.

Admin
07-20-2004, 07:38 AM
It didn't take long for the pit action to become intense, Pro Team Rambo Racing, Josh Whitehead was one of the 1st riders to head into the pits. With the race lasting 6 hours, a small problem left go early in the race could easily lead to a DNF if it wasn't addressed, so many riders didn't take any chances and quickly came in for repairs.

The track was well prepared, but this was still Pennsylvania, and rocks were starting to emerge from the ground early in the race which lead to plenty of flat tires. Several teams didn't have to worry about flat tires because they invested in Tireballs, which were a definite plus for this race.

30+ Class Team Cannondaleriders.com with Kenny Campbell and Rick Cecco riding early in the race pushed themselves into the Class lead and top 10 overall. EXriders.com Chad Kirby and Harlen Foley were back a few minutes, but we were pulled in after manually monitoring our lap times for a few laps to change out transponders because ours quit working after the 3 lap. This became a problem for several teams, which didn't have them mounted as vertical as possible.

As day turned to night, the race became even more interesting, and it gave the teams that properly prepared for racing in the dark an advantage.

Those that tried to get by with Stock Headlights were at a huge disadvantage over those that invested in a set of Trail Tech Lights or other lighting system. The difference between the two were night and day.

The TC Racing team were leading heading into the dark, but they ran into typical YFZ electrical problems, which allowed JB Racing on their 450R to take over the lead.

B Class Team, 3 Ring Circus (Brian Campbell, Zack Thomas, Bryan Braughler) were only able to finish 23 laps, but enjoyed every minute of it.

This team was formed only days before the race and they didn't even know which quad they were going to race till the morning of the race, so to finish 23 laps was impressive.

After a back and forth battle between TC Racing and JB Racing who ironically pitted side by side, JB Racing was out front for the checkered flag! This XC team consisting of Chris Jenks, Jathan Seale, and Jeremy Rice were able to hold off the competition and pull in a win for Jody Bateman and all of their sponsors.

Congratulations to these Pro Am riders:macho

The TC Racing team (Pat Brown, Dustin Wimmer, and Jason Dunkelberger) finished just under three minutes behind the winning team with 33 laps completed. This MX based team gave JB Racing a run for the win early in the race, but they expeirenced electrical problems which slowed them down and allowed JB Racing to take the lead and hold it for the rest of the race. East Coast ATV also suffered similar issues, which kept them out of the running for the top spot as well.

Jason Dunkelberger surprising competed in the event because he felt strong enough to put in some laps. He should be back in full swing by Southwick.

Congrats to the TC Racing:macho

Several minutes after the top two teams were on the Podium, The Hertz team finally realized that they finished 3rd Overall. Tom Hertz rode their East Coast ATV 450R up on the Podium to accept their award grinning ear to ear:D

The Hertz Racing Team (Rob & Tom Hertz, and Sean Neidlinger) finished third Overall and was the last team to complete 33 laps. This was a huge accomplishment for the Hertz brothers who have been racing the GNCC series together for years. It was great to see them have such an awesome finish in front of their home town crowd.

The fastest amateur team was Wilson Racing(Allen Howell, Jeff Pickens, Mike Sroka Jr) who Won the A Class and completed an impressive 31 laps on their Polaris Predator.

ATV Addiction.com Team(Mike Johnston, Mike Lucus) was only a two man team, but it didn't slow them down. They finished 2nd in the A Class and 6th Overall.

The Bowers Motorcycle Supplies Team (Al Kose, John Bowers, Jarrod McClure) finished third in the A Class and was the last team to complete 30 laps. Unlike all the teams that finished ahead of them, no member of this team ever competed in a National Event as a A Class rider. Both John and Jarrod have only competed in the Stock Class in the GNCC Series. John has semi retired from racing, and is now focusing on his shop and training Jarrod McClure.

Congrats to the another local race team!

Team HMF (George Hickey, Blake Kramer, Pete Stadtmueller) was able to pull off the B Class win in the final few laps of the race after they passed the Johns Mobile Service Race Team.

Johns Mobile Service Race Team (John & Steve Cunningham, John Kenny) didn't win the B Class like they had hoped, but they still had an awesome time. They considered this race the most fun they have ever had in all their years of racing and this was consensus for most of the teams that finished or not.

The EXriders.com Team (Chad Kirby, Ron Dernoski, Harlen Foley) won the 30+ Class after having an up and down day, but in the end the Z400 held together for the win. It was an incredible experience that I will never forget, and it was made possible with the help of C&D Racing, Burgard Cycle, Trail Tech, ITP Tries, PRM-ATV, Fullbore, Xtreme Gear, TireBalls, IMS, HMF, Elka, and RTC Racing.

Special thanks to all our parents & wives that showed up to support us and Izzy Burgard for being such a great help in the pits.

Hey guys, newbie to exriders here. Just signed up here tonight to see the pictures of the 6 hr race. I seen Harlen taking pictures all day long at the race and everyone was telling me that exriders has the best race coverage on the net. Just wanted to say thanks for taking all the pictures, the writeups to go along with the pictures and the time it took to get it all organized and posted. Great job.

I had a great time at the race, I helped out in the East Coast Powersports pit..... the winners in the Utility class. The winning Grizzly ran great the whole race, the quad was prepped perfectly. I have a fuzzy\rainy podium picture of the Utility class winners if you'd like to have it. I'll post it soon.

Anyways..... just wanted to say thanks for the pictures\coverage and say hi

I am amazed at the amount of messages that I have recieved for not posting the morning coverage, so I will get it done by the end of next week.

Preparing for the 6 hour race took all of my time last week, which put me behind on everything.

Alright, heres how it happened..... we were haullin the whole race, then around 9:40 the guy that was handing off to me next, never came in????? at around 10:55 he(Mark) and our other teammate came pushing the bike towards pit row???? I said oh no u don't, lets push that thing over the finish line, team members only so that lap counts!!!!!! Well we pushed it up that big hill by the finish and then Mark decided to bump start it down the other side??(now, why they never did this in the 1.5 miles they pushed the bike to get to this point is beyond me???) anyway...... The Ref said the white was techincally still out, Mark said he was done, I said I wanted to finish this thing anyway, let me on, so I ran back for the helmet and asked Mr Ref to make sure we did not get scored because I just wanted to finish the thing!!! He nodded and let me back on after the scoring line.......well the computer picked us up but it did not change our finish!!!!!
I guess it was fun?

We never got to thank these guys, they were a big help when the 450r overheated we asked if they would pressure wash the radiator, I took over juggs of water to replace what they used on our bike, but I was told "were not worried about it". Thanks for helping us out we really appreciate what you did.

as you can see lots of mud, 2 front flat tires Colby said it must of happened on the last lap, the hiper rings had chunks out of them, front left side fender bracket broke, The rear HD tire has a big chunk out of the sidewall I still need to get a picture of that tire, its still holding air

as you can see it could have been alot worse, I think we need to invest in a full chassis skid:eek2:

Dusty where di you put the team name?

I know in order to view lap times you have to register for your own account. Whe you register you do not own your transponder so click on the middle option. When you are done registering you can add a transponder. Just click type in the number and you are good to go.
