Well, after having my Blaster for a while I am now thinking of buying a 250r quad but I dont know which is the best year to buy it in. I really dont know much about the differences in the older like 86 and below models and was thinking about purchasing an 87 or up. Is this a good choice or does it even matter?

they are all good. there was some slight differences between the years

86 short rod, longer swingarm , taller gearing
87 long rod , longer swingarm , taller gearing
88 long rod , shorter swingarm , shorter gearing
89 long rod , shorter swingarm , shorter gearing

they also moved the a-arm position between the years, but im not sure which year it was done..... probably the 88/89 was changed.

buy what ever one you can find thats in good shape.

Well, im thinking of getting this cool looking mx 89 250r for like 4,500. Its really fixed up but I was also wondering if 250rs are reliable even though there old or should I just buy a 4-stroke instead.

depends how the quad was treated...... they are old, and if they wernt properly maintained then they definately wont be reliable. the one i had wasnt taken care of, so it was left up to me to fix almost everything which meant never riding and always working on it.......blah.... i ended up selling it and getting a 450r.

I've never had any problems with my 86, except when I bought a new motor. The new motor didn't work out too well, so I put the old motor back in.
