does the Spark Arrester hurt or help the hp.

It doesn't help, but I can't tell a difference (other than sound) when I run mine and when I don't.

I think it takes a way a little bit of HP, not enough to make any kind of a difference though

You'd have to see what backpressure that endcap is giving. You might lean out your motor "slightly" by removing it and not rejetting. Will you see the improvment on a dyno? dunno....if there is a 1 hp difference I'd be amazed.

Yea it dosn't make a big difference at all, and it shouldn't hurt the motor at all either

I took out the spark arrester and soemtimes when i rev it and as the rpms go down it back fires this just normal?

If you didn't rejet, thats because you're too lean and the backfiring is an indication. Try rejetting properly with a dynojet kit and you'll get rid of that problem. Keep in mind that running too lean can burn up exhaust valves.
