you can run plus 2 A-arms, and 4-1 rims, and still be narrow enough for almost all trails/ XC races. But the common width for XC is stock or plus 1.

Ive only seen people run +1's with 4-1 rims or stock. I think +2's will still be too wide even with 4-1 rims. Even if the track is pretty wide there will be a few places where you'll hit.

I run the local Harescramble circut and there is one 400ex that shows up full motocrossed out. +2 a-arms and extended axle. He doesn't do well at all. I haven't heard of him finishing a race yet due to not being able to get through the woods. I have stock a-arms and 4/1 hipers. The front end is narrow and it'll 2 wheel once in a while but I just expect it. Having nerfs and a narrow front end is nice, stuff it in there and mash the throttle you'll get through.

Most riders I talk to in the GNCC's try to stay around 46" in the front.

most GNCC tracks are getting wider and wider, so you could make it with +2 a-arms if you had too. that is little to wide though for what most people want. you can do it but it would be better to be around 46"

I wouldn't go over 46 for XC racing, even though the trails may be getting wider, you'll always be looking for another line through the woods to make passes.

True and by no mean is it the best set up but it can easily be done!

I would not go over 46" for XC every pro that I know is or was running a +1wider and 1" forward. If you only race then race a few stock classes and see what the pros are using in your area if you ride for fun as well you need to check you local area. Right now in our area there is a 45" max width, the 400ex is just getting by so if you went wider you would not be able to ride.

so i geuss a stock 450R doesnt race at your course? they are 46.3 stock width and with +1 arms (that you recommend) are way past the 45 inch max you say is required. and why a +1 forward? are your refering to a 400ex with out a +1 1/4 swing arm? we all know that a +1 forward isnt needed or desired when running astock length swing arm on a 400ex so what quad are you refering too?
