300ex plastic handel bars (stock)

how do i take the plastic cover off the handel bars?because it looks gay

There is 2 caps right above the key, pop them off with a screwdriver and take out the bolts holding it on. The plastic also has clip things on the headlight, and right next to the grips. They just pop off. If you take it off, you have to relocate the key, and hose from the gas cap. It looks a lot better with it off.

yea i took headlight and handlebar cover off mine looks alot better, yea do what he said, thats right. my father in law is making me a 3x6 piece of polished aluminum to bolt onto the bottom two bolts of the handlebars to mount the ignition in. it looks real cool. or you could use stainless. if ya dont make somethin youll have to zip tie it or somethin, that would look dumb. just another oppertunity for some bling bling.:D ed

[COLOR=deeppink] i've got a 300ex and actually hated the goofy lookin headlight as well as the handle bars...i replaced the handle bars with a stock pair from a 400ex, which took off all that plastic and the neutral/reverse light- that part kinda sucks when tryin to find neutral, but im gettin used to it (it looks soooo much better!) the headlight i replaced with 2 moose healights that i mounted near the front shocks under the plastic- put in some halogen bulbs- it all looks really bad ***. the guys have told me now that my front end kinda looks like a 250r after replacing everything!! ;)

I cut my handlebar plastic piece down to look like the dash on a regular honda. its better than before.

yeah bulkdriverlp ur plastic does look good and new but it kinda looks gay with your key hanging down, i really hope you decide to drill a hole and put it somewhere else, just constructive criticism

you can also get a piece of plastic from a 250x that has a keyhole in it for like 12 bucks from your dealer
just another option for your key

i just took every thing off the head light and all the nurtreal lights i also disconected the reverse levers. and got diffrenet palstics(400ex MAier)
ohh and my key i just zipped tied to the frame and No it dosent look getto :o

Wow, stock 300ex plastics are soo ugly lol, but ya the bike is very clean, pimp that badboy out and get some aftermartket pastics for the front atleast !

just bought trail tech lighting kit
for the key, just drill an hole on the side of the plastic
look a lot better but i think i will look better if you put trail tech light a the place Tread70 has put his light

i am getting ready to remove my gay handle bar covers and im just going to either hose clamp or zip tie the ignition to the frame like a motocycle. But i have to say, i do like the idea of drilling the hole in the plastic for the key, but you cant do that with race cuts.

u can put it in the plastic with race cuts....just place it right underneath the handle bar clamp...mine are race cut and i have the key right in the side of the plastic. theres space right underneath the handle bar clamp b/c the gas tank only goes to the handlebars
