What are the pros and cons of each??? I love riding the track but also like the woods....so I need something to help me figure out which one I want to get into. Thanks in advance.

I'm having the same trouble.

Why not just do both??

I don't think you would want +2 LT a-arms and a +4 axle in tight woods. Unless you plan on having stock width on the track, but not too many people go with that.

I love riding in the woods, but after racing once (even though the track sucked horribly) on an MX track, I really felt like racing MX was for me too.

I guess the best thing to do is to get two machines, but not everyone has rich parents or an extremely nice job:o :p . (Chef I hate you, lol:p )

I would love to do both but don't the bikes have to be set up totally different in MX than in XC??

Yea that's what I was saying in my above post. If you had your quad set up for XC and MX, it wouldn't excel very well in either race style.

buy some +2 a-arms, and run different off sets for the xc and mx. and get a adjustable axle.

XC is lots of fun, and so is MX, but I think MX takes a lot out of you quickly. I know in the GNCCs I'm ready to hit the woods again after being on the MX section.

I think it depends on what you do for fun. If you like trail riding with your buddies during the week, a XC setup would be more friendly to that. A MX setup would not be fun to try and trail ride for fun. That is why I decided to race XC rather than MX because I can't always find a MX track to ride on and I enjoy play riding with my friends too much.

XC, because you get the best of everything, woods, and a motocross track.

i agree with the plus two a-arms idea, plus 2 a-arms and 4+1 wheels puts you at about 46 inches on a 400ex i beleive, a tad wide for gncc's but there wider quads out there (predator for instance) so its not like its impossible. then slap on the 3=2 wheels and now your 48 inches wide, not a full 50 inc MX quad, but your close enuff considering it is a compromise set up. i beleive elka can also help you set up your shock to preform well in both types of racing-to an extent of couse since this is a compromise set up

Whatever is right for you. That's why we have the Bill Ballance's for XC and the Doug Gust's for MX. Everyone is different, just do what one you enjoy most.

I'll say this: A friend of mine has a son who has almost grown up on quads. They rode XC and his dads 400 has over 4000 miles on it and they always rode together. His son was and is an awesome quad rider, who at 16-18 (and probably 90 to 110 lbs.) could ride a 250R like nobodys business. Anyway, he started riding MX. Thats when things went downhill. He broke his ankle... twice I think and his wrist at least once. Most of what hurt him was the jumps... but thats part of MX.

someone needs to tell him to not go balls to the wall, mx is diferent then xc, ya got to be pinned around the corners to hit jumps and clear them, i have nver done xc or probably will never do xc but i think mx would be funner, i do race and ride on mx and ride dunes, but mx is a totally different thing from dunes and i love it and im hooked on racing

i like moto cross whichever you like to do better rail turns and fly or fly through tight woods. i like both but mx is more for me to me its more of a challenge to try to land smooth and still clear jumps mx is more expensive cause to be competitive youneed a wider bike with some nice shocks etc. xc you can race a stock bike and be competitive. but again its whatever you prefer to do you can get hurt equally doing either
