wanting to get back paddle tires for my 400ex. don't know what kind to get. all i have on the bike is a full wb exhaust. w/ headers. wb rev lim. and k&n dyno jet kit. don't want anything to lug down my bike to much. i used my friends tires at the dunes and they were some 22's. and it felt like my bike was lugging down way to much. any suggestions would be great. thanks.

I had 20x11x9 sand stars on my 400ex and they hook up and play well also. Lets face it....400ex's arent going to win too many drags unless you have it modded like mad....no since in buying a tire made for dragging.

True, and the stars are one of the best sidehilling and play tires I've eve ridden.

I currently use Sand Sharks on my 400EX. Mods are: Duncan Fatboy4, rejetted, K&N, and no airbox lid.

They work great. Was going to go with San Stars, but Eli at Duncan changed my mind. They are a bit aggressive for a 400EX. Also, if any of you get Sand Addiction magazine, Mike Lyon had a review of the tires. He stated that they are good for less aggressive riders.

I am borrowing a set of Sand Tires Unlimited Sand Skate 1's "Play Cut" and a set of Mini Desert Track "Comp Cut" for my trip to St. Anthony 7/25-8/1.

I'll let you know how each works.

The type you get depends what type of riding you will do. If you jump, the lighter the better. If you do alot of sidehilling and like to carve bowls, get a V-Blade paddle. If you plan to do alot of dragging and don't care about your bike having a tendenacy to flip sideways, get a set of straight paddles. My Reccomendations are as follows:

Best overall play tire: Sand Skate II On Douglas .125= $225
Best hookup tire: Hauler 8 Paddle On Douglas .125= $220
Best of both worlds: Sand Stars On Douglas .125= $169

The Sand Skates are a VERY light play tire ideal for jumping and sidehilling and probably the most popular tire I have ever seen at the dunes

The haulers are a well built glued paddle tire that will provide about the best hook up of any sand tire. They are also very popular.

The sand stars are made by ITP. They have new innovative designs such as dual rib front tires(the best front tire made in my opinion) and 8 inside blades for better hookup. Some say they don't side hill as well, but they are nothing to be ashamed of. It has never stopped me.

Here are some Sand Skate II's for a 400EX that I am selling. I bought them before I had really ever made a decision on what tires, then I decided on Sand Stars. They have been used a little, but not alot. I am taking a $45 loss on this price $125 shipped to your front door. They have since been cleaned up, the rims shine and so do the tires.

i dont have a problem w/ my geckos... granted there are better tires but that doesnt mean theyre bad..

no mater what choice you make.. it will 90% likely be a good choice.

but i have heard sand stars to be very impressive

good luck w/ whatever your decision may be.

What he said:D Sand skate's are great on a 400 but they honestly work better after they wear down, for that reason I recomend sand sharks or kende trackers

Well I am back. Actually been back a week or so, but busy planning the 2nd Annual South County Beer Pong Tournament that is happening on Saturday. :D

St. Anthony's was AWESOME!

Rode the play cut Sand Skate I's on Douglas Blue labels for the 1st 4 days. Every other paddle has been shaved off. The tires were great! Hooked up well and slid in the turns the way I liked them. Very predictible. Never got squirrly on me. They were 21" tires on 10" rims.

I waited until the last 2 days to try out the comp cut Mini Desert Traks on Douglas Blue Labels also. Because they are Comp Cut, I didn't want to take any chances on ripping them and have to pay for replacements since they were borrowed. These tires were 22" tall and seemed to be to tall for the power of my bike. I couldn't slide them around like the SSI or even Sand Sharks.

Mike doesn't use the Skates anymore so I am buying them off of him. He likes the Desert Traks for his 350R.
