my friend had his painted black with some special automotive paint thats supposed to be super hard and for the bottom of your car and stuff and sposed to be some of the strongest paint they put on cars. well the stuff chips off so easy its not even funny. powdercoating really is the only way to go

I would just powdercoat it. Just about every frame that I have seen that was just painted ended up chipping pretty bad and looked like crap

I had sand blasted mine completely down to the metal then 2 coats of primer and 2 coats of paint and another 2 coats of clear coat on my 400 frame no chips of crakcs except where i would put in bolts like for a arms or motor mounts and looks fine all the paints were just $3 cans of rust oleum

After I get my frame gusseted i'm planning to use primer and 3M rubber undercoating... That or POR-15... If I had the displacement and more money, line-X would also be an option.

I painted my Complete 4-wheeler this last winter, And I painted my frame a bright green, I tried to get it like Chris Jenks 250r, But it came out a little more like a Kawi green.

But anyways, My frame help up awsome, But my uper a-arms that i painted are lookin a little rough, and my grab bar is a little dinged up also. But thats just cuz i guess that i wasnt fast enuf in TX, When a guy on a 400ex with a PRM summit bumper bashed my grab bar a few time!! But if your gona do it, Just same for a while longer, and PC it it will be alot better for u

to get the results you are looking for would be to PC it.just painting it might be good on your wallet but down the road it isnt worth it. since you have to break down the bike to paint it, you dont want to paint over and over.PCing it is dependable and if you were to ding the frame it will not chip.

PC is worth the extra money, because it will last AT LEAST twice as long. But if you have to paint it, the majority of work should be in prepping/cleaning the surface. If you dont prep. the surface properly than the pant will not have a surface to bond to and the paint will not be very strong. Just save your time and get it pced, usually if you prep. it before going to the PC shop, they do it cheaper :eek2:

My bro is in the process right now he had to tear it apart and its a cheap way to make it look half way decent for awhile atleast

I painted my old 250x frame with krylon paint and put a few coats of clear coat. I painted it light purple

I'de PC it, its worth every cent of it. It looks good, lasts long, and keeps your frame from rotting away. Go with the PC ;)
