I know this is a beat topic.......but, i just got back from my local honda dealer and they said not to bore it...they said that doing a 416 piston wont do that much...they suggested a stock bore and a higher compression piston with a white brothers all around cam! they said it would be just as fast, and i wouldnt have to bore! I trust my local dealer because they all ride and they NEVER try to sell me stuff i dont need...in fact they tell me to buy some parts off the internet because they are cheaper.... on the other hand i trust the riders on this web site!!!! I was looking at getting a marcums 416 kit....money isnt the problem but "Reliability" is....i would rateher have a slower machine thats runs, than a fast machine that always needs work!!! I would do all the work myself....i have engine experience....I am just unsure now....i think i might just get some good shocks and wait on the engine!!!! Any suggestions!

yes just boring to 416 will have less power than a stock bore and a cam, but a 416 high comp and a cam will be hella faster than a stock bore and cam.

NJ300EX is Right. I would get a Hetricks 416 Kit. Go to WWW.HetrickRacing.COM and check it out. The Killer Setup would be the Hetrick 416, 39mm FCR Carb, and a Hetrick Pipe.

The Hetrick kit does look awesome for $500, and I don't think you would go wrong with it. You also wouldn't go wrong w/ the 416 kit from Marcum's. I've had it now for about 3 weeks, and there is a lot more power than stock. I had to play around w/ jetting, but once that was done, I had no problems. Sure a bored cylinder won't be as reliable as stock, but I don't think you will have any problems with it. Get the 416, go out riding with the guys at your Honda shop, then see if they still think it doesn't give you any more power.

The bottom end is much stronger than before. Even w/ a 16t sprocket, it will whellie in 3rd without me pulling on the bars at all.

Hey Dave, What dealership did you go to? I have the 416 and after I put new tamers on I can't keep the front end on the ground with a 15t sprocket and 18" tires! I would definatley get the 10.8:1 JE 416 piston with either a xr400 cam or a wild cam. You will definatley notice the difference. If you go with the wild cam I would definatley reccomend a fcr39 mm carb though. If you run into any problems I imagine I could swing by and take a look since I did my 416.;)

Shout a holla if you are confused abotu something.

You definatley should get a 416 with a cam. Get it from marcums. you can get the piston, gaskets, cam, and viton seals all for about $275-300. I had the marcums 416 kit and there wasnt a 440 or a 426 that was faster than mine. I may be a good rider but not that good!!!

if ur scared about reliablity, heat, and the thin sleeve but u still want to bore it, get the 406... i am 100% sure u will be happy with a 406 and cam... its not that much slower then a 416 i can't wait to race norm at rausch and see the diffenrce between mine and a marcums 416... i will have the mod carb and porting but norm will have the slip on e-series... i hes gonna have more then me but hopefully i can borrow my friends yoshi slip on and rejet my carb...

Well I am still not sure on the 416 or 425. I think I want a 416 the First Time, so when it needs Bored again, I can do a 425.

I have never ridden anything but a 400ex with a TC Pipe on it. I want to Ride a 416 so I know the Difference before I Buy one.
