my brakes have seen better dayz and I need to replace them. I was wondering if I could switch any 400ex parts with a 250r,

You can switch to 250R parts but its very expensive! You'll need these parts from a 250R: caliper, pads, caliper bracket and rotor.

What is wrong with your 400ex parts?

after riding the 450r and getting back on the 400ex it feels like the 400ex doesn't have very good brakes. I have the braided lines front and rear dp pads front and rear and an rtc brake lever, stock rotors though. I have though about changing to the 250r brakes but it looks to be kind of expensive now that Jeff listed all the parts :(

the rear is an easy fix, use the crf front caliper (ebay for $40) GT Thunder caliper mount ($40) and a 250R rotor (new?$)and a used R hub... it totals way less then the R set up and works as well.

the fronts are where the money come in...big time. but right now, you can get the parts from alot of people that are parting out R's.
you could snatch a set of R calipers for say $150 and then the $200 Balwdwin caliper mounts and be done with it.

kinda weird, we will spend $1500 to go faster but frown at $450 to slow down:devil:

go with the crf caliper in the rear, in the front you can get new spindles and complete front calipers from the 450r minus brake pads for under $200 from service honda, i have the front calipers but haven't bought the spindles yet, the spindles measure the same as 400's except the bolt holes for the calipers are closer together by about a 1/4" i think

are the rotors the same size as the 400 or will they be needed with this set up?

id prefer the newer parts over old R stuff:p
