My daughter was 7 and my son was 8 on a Polaris 90. I just started them out with the rev limiter on and the throttle stop set at a very slow speed. Now there are no limiters and they are ready for more power after only 2 years.

My oldest son is 2 1/2 and he can cruise a Dinli 50 around purty good. Have the throttle shut all the way down to a slow speed but just enough to get him around.

I started on a 90 when I was like 6 or 7.
I want to start my kids (when I have them, way down the road) when they are near the same, 6 or 7... maybe 5 if they show enough interest.

in my opinion it is up to the ability of the child, the childs mental readiness and the ability of the parents to monitor the child. some kids ride like they have been doing it all thier lives, while others take longer to grasp the concepts that are needed for safe atv or motocycle control.

my kids have been riding since 6 and 4 and both have different requirements from me.

get them a mini, teach them what they need to know and have a blast being with your kids!

I agree completly with Pappy on this, my Daughter was very easy to get aquainted with a quad but my Son took alot more time although he was younger I still feel my Daughter was much more aware and easier to displine than he was.Hes now 7 and doing much better but Im still on him WAY more than I ever was with my Daughter.....:p

But then again.....Thats a Boy for ya....;) NO FEAR

That's funny. My kids are the opposite. My daughter is all throttle and my son is more cautious. Maybe too cautious at times. He's getting much more fearless now that he's gained more confidence. I think it definately depends on the kid. I've noticed they do listen much better when it comes to riding than they do with other things. I think it's been a good teaching tool. I'm glad I started them early while their bones will still bend a little.:eek2:

My daughter can be fast but she stares at the scenery too.:eek2:

My boy is getting really good at using body english and techniques. It's cool watching them both get better. You can see it every time they ride.

Sorry to hijack the thread...but I feel if they can handle a power wheels/tricycle or bicycle they can handle a quad. WITH supervision.:D

I agree, Lots of supervision is the key. Quads aren't babysitters.

I bought a 300EX when I was 17 but I always rode my cousins quad before that.

I started my son at 4 on a PW50 w/ training wheels and a 6 bought a quad. He ride really good but his thumb get tired on long trips. He loves riding with me on the 450R.

This is a great investment for our family because we all love to do it.

04' TRX450R (Mine)
03' TRX300EX (Wife)
96' Bayou (14yr old son)
04' Kazuma 110cc (6yr old son)

Always with kidz make them wear HELMETS. Last weekend our 6yr old was riding a trail and caught a tree root and he went right and the quad went left. He landed on his face down and his head hit hard but he had a helmet and goggles on. I don't want to think what it would have done otherwise...

I started my boy on a Honda xr50 and a Suzuki LT50 at age 4.The 4-wheeler suited him better because he didn't have the balance to ride the bike.

my first ride was a honda big red 3 wheeler when i was 12 or so, i respected it so i never got hurt on it, then i graduated to a dirt bike in high school and on to a 96 honda foreman. i rode the dog piss out it until 02 when i got my 400ex, the only wrecks i have these days are simply cause my head is inserted in my rear. my daughter has a 50 and loves it, it is her prize possesion. you cant start them out too young with enough supervision.
