I have the pics of the quad rate Elka's and Houser long travel +1 a-arms if someone can tell me how to post them on here. They are stored in Image Station.

Jeff,

On the bottom of the post/reply screen there is an 'attach file' option.. All you need to do is click on the 'browse' button, and you can select the pics on your PC, when you click submit they will automatically be uploaded to the forums.

Or you can just email me the pic and I'll gladly post it for you.

Leo

I wanna see a pic of these quad rates:D Give me the link to imagestation and I will post it. if it is on imagestation though is all you gotta do is right click on the picture and go to the properties and then copy the URL and paste the url here and we will have to copy and paste it onto the top because imagestation won't host for other web sites.

Quad rate.

cdalejef
03-27-2002, 07:16 PM

Guy400
03-27-2002, 07:18 PM
Jeff, isn't it a little dangerous riding without the upper shock bolt in place? :D

Nausty
03-27-2002, 07:19 PM
oh I was just curious. look pretty nice.

cdalejef
03-27-2002, 07:21 PM
400ex21, not impossible to bottom out. If they were, they would be way to stiff.

Guy, I live dangerously!!! :D

Im buying a set with houser +2 a-arms real soon, Thats the first I saw a picture of them and now i really am in a hurry to get the rest of the money. Ill have to get my rear converted so Jeff, how long will it take from when i send it out to when i get my rear shock back if i send it to you guys? Email me a jcman88077@aol.com, thanks

cdalejef
03-27-2002, 07:41 PM
It takes 1-3 days from when we receive your shock to the time we ship it out unless we run out of spring kits. We have a few left now with more on the way.

NacsRacing400
03-27-2002, 07:45 PM
So do you think it would be possible that when im ready to do this i can get it overnighted to you on a monday and you overnight it back to me so i have it back for that weekends race? This would be great because it would save me from buying a spare shock.

cdalejef
03-27-2002, 07:48 PM
Sure, just let me know in advance so I can save a spring kit for you.

Ill give you a call in a few weeks. I think im going to be buying alot more than just that off of you just because of how fast you anwser my questions and you seem like a nice guy, unlike some other companys. So thanks for everything.

cdalejef
03-27-2002, 07:57 PM
Sounds good! The a-arms from Houser are running about 2-3 weeks behind right now. So take that into consideration.

Wingnut
03-27-2002, 08:04 PM
Those are pretty cool. The reason bought the dual rates instead of the tripple rate shocks is that when I thought about it the tripple rates are really single rate. But with these shocks, Elka has that fixed.

cdalejef
03-27-2002, 08:13 PM
What do you mean Wingnut?

Wingnut
03-27-2002, 08:19 PM
Well, according to Elka, the tripple rates use SSD spring, that spring should bottom out while riding so it does not do much good for trail riding. Then you have the spring thats purpose is to help in preventing the shock from bottoming out, so that spring would be extrememly stiff, again does not do much good for trail riding. Then that leaves the third spring to do all the work. Atleast that makes sense to me, I could be wrong. But, doesn't Elka recommend the dual rate for trail riding anyway.

cdalejef
03-27-2002, 08:24 PM
On a triple rate shock the main spring is a dual rate spring and the second spring is lighter, it gets used up first for soaking up small stuff, then you have the SSD.

How does that work? Is the spring wound tighter at one end, or does the metal get thicker, or what? I am happy with my dual rates, I have not regretted getting them once, and I am proud to be one of the few people who owns a set. I would almost be willing to bet that these dual rates can be adjusted to sit as low as any SSD type shock.

cdalejef
03-27-2002, 08:49 PM
Humm, you stumped me. I'll have to ask Marty on that one. Glad you like your shocks. The only thing about making yours sit lower like an SSD is you have to soften them with the preload ring to do it. With an SSD spring you keep the ride the same.

03-28-2002, 09:39 AM
Hey jeff since I live up the street from ya and I got me some +1 houser arms,,,you want me to test them shocks out real good for ya on a MX track and right up a review??? :D :D :D (I'll keep my fingers crossed until you reply)

03-28-2002, 10:34 PM
hey, what gives? Those shocks look just like mine. Maybe Elka slipped me the new stuff and didnt say squish about it? I dunno, but my new front shocks got 4 springs on 'em just like those.

Well i just finished doing the leg work for one of my best friends who rides a raptor. I got him to call Marty today and order the Houser Long Travel Plus 3 19" shock a arms with YZ blue and chrome tops, along with the Elka Quad rate long travel shocks. he also got the rear rebuild and brake lines his total was like
2100$ We cant wait to get them here and install the parts. Thanks Jeff and Marty for great service, and I hope Jeff's finger gets better he should stop hurting himself. This Raptor is going to be hard to beat now on the track im going to have to order the same setup. For my 400ex

Dave400ex
03-29-2002, 11:29 AM
Wow. That is going to be one Bad Raptor. Marty has a Raptor a lot like that. It is Sweet. Post Pictures when it`s all together. You should get the same Setup for your 400EX.

cdalejef
03-29-2002, 12:21 PM
If you got them within the last month then they will be quad rate!

Dave400ex
03-29-2002, 12:26 PM
Jeff, How much better are the Quad Rates then the Triple Rates?

cdalejef
03-29-2002, 01:07 PM
They seem to soak up the small stuff better. Bottoming resistance didn't change much.

03-29-2002, 01:48 PM
jeff, what would be the best front suspension for my banshee, both aarms and shocks? do they make long travel units for banshees? its for mx, thanks

cdalejef
03-29-2002, 02:25 PM
trx400ex, I don't think anyone makes long travels for Banshee's (someone correct me if I'm wrong). I would go with LoneStar, no matter how wide you go make sure you get +1 foreward. It makes them steer much better. As for shocks, I would go with Elka dual rates.

trx400ex
03-29-2002, 03:07 PM
thanks, if i put the 1 inch forwards in the front should i do anything with the rear end? and can you rebuild rear banshee shocks?

The swingarm is already pretty long and anymore added length and you'd be hurting your cornering. The Shee's wheelbase is like 50.4" so I wouldn't add length unless your building a hill shooter or drag bike.

Yes, the rear shock is rebuildable.

cdalejef
03-29-2002, 04:03 PM
Like Guy said, leave the rear end alone for trail, XC, or MX. You can rebuild the rear shock!

trx400ex

Dave400ex
03-29-2002, 07:40 PM
Jeff, Thanks for the Info. The Quad Rates are only Long Travel right?

TRX400EX, I would get Laeger A-Arms and some Elka Triple Rate Fronts. You could get the Suspension Setup I have in my Signature. I would go with Laeger though.

cdalejef
03-29-2002, 07:45 PM
Yes, long travel only for now.

trx400ex
03-29-2002, 07:46 PM
i bet i will end up going with laeger, i would really like a roll design front end, but for what they want i could buy a lot of lager parts....i just dont know about the shocks..i have a while to decide anyway...:)

mines faster than Jeff's, Marty is my pal. Jokes aside the guys at the Quadshop are some of the finest people I've dealt with in a long time. My 250r has the new elka Quad rates with piggybacks and the Houser lower arms just like Jeffs. I'm very new to atv's about two months now, rode bikes for years, and the suspension on this thing is every bit as good if not better than my fully Race Tech modified YZF250 for the woods. I really can't see it getting any better than the Elkas and longer arms unless it was air ride. Thanks again Marty and Jeff for everthing you guys have helped me with!

Dave400ex
03-29-2002, 07:53 PM
I wish you could get the Quad Rates for Stock Travel.

TRX400EX, Go with Laeger. You will be Happy. If you don`t get Elka Shocks, I would get PEP ZPS. They are the Best you are going to get for MX Racing.

i dont think pep makes banshee zps shocks, but im not sure,,,, now that i think about it, i heard that laegers uses cheap ball joints....oh well there probably tougher than my burgards...i might even go with lonestar, who knows

TRX400EX, I just Checked Advanced ATV and they had PEP ZPS Front and Rear Shocks for a Banshee. I think Baldwin has them on his Site too. 400MXer said Laeger updated the Ball Joints. Even though I have heard about Laeger using Cheap Ball Joints, I have never heard of them Breaking. Well I don`t like Lonestar, so I would not get them. I think they are Way over Priced and are not very Good. I would go with Laeger or Walsh.

Jeff, They won`t be Laughing anymore.

I think the CRF will be a Sweet Quad. Have you ordered your Houser Frame Jeff?

cdalejef
03-30-2002, 09:56 AM
Ya, we ordered it in January. We were 18th in line at the time.

400MXer
03-30-2002, 10:00 AM
Laeger did update their balljoints, but even if you got the laegers witht he old ball joints..you won't have much trouble with it....my buddy has some with the old balljoints and he races MX and hasn't had a problem yet. But i got the updated balljoints on mine.

I would soooooo love to be able to build a yz426 or a crf450 quad...that would be a dream....i love 4 strokes, but if i even want to step up my quad i'll have to buy an R, because they wont cost me $23g's to build.

Dave400ex
03-30-2002, 10:01 AM

I've failed repeatedly at getting pictures up, and for that I apologize. I am going out to the property tomorrow, and I will be sure to take some so they can be posted here. My company just started a huge push for sales this month, so tomorrow may be the last chance I get to ride until May, so I don't want to miss out on tomorrow. I'll make sure to get pics and post them.

03-30-2002, 07:08 PM
Yeah the CRF will Eat the YZF. You could Build a KTM 520 though. Nacs I would be going to Houser if I were you. Maybe you can Ride the CRF or YZF.

FatBoy, We will tell you about the Shocks when the Pictures are Posted. I really want to see the Front End. I`m sure it is Sweet. I would be Riding all I could if you can`t again until May. That is a Long Time. We will be Waiting for the Pictures.

Yep FatBoy....change your cig, you have quad rates. If you loose the little black plugs on the bottom arms, give me a call I have plugs that will not fall out! I lost 3 of mine in the first race. Haven't lost any of the new ones.

Dave400ex
04-04-2002, 09:17 PM
What are the Plugs for? To keep Water, Dirt, and Mud out?

mrusk
04-04-2002, 09:19 PM
Guys i am sorry to let you down but no CRF is going to eat a yzf440 alive. It just aint going to happen. Talk to Tim Farr. If you didnt know he ran the his CRF laegers at Macon and totally got smoked. It was underpowered.

How many of you guys have acctually seen a Walsh frame or any walsh componet in person? I find it funny how you guys talk about them with out ever seeing them.

matt

Dave400ex
04-04-2002, 09:24 PM
A CRF will not Eat a YZ440. We said a 426. The 440`s have more Motor Mods done to them. Tim`s CRF only has a Different Piston as far as I know. He could Mod the Engine like the YZ440 and it should Beat it Good. If the CRF Sucks so Bad, then why did Tim Finish Second Overall?

I have seen the Walsh Frames at Red Bud. Digger has one. They are very Nice. Duncan has a Complete Roll Design Setup in front of their Trailer. Now that was Sweet. There was also Laeger, Arens, and Lonestar Frames there.

cdalejef
04-04-2002, 09:26 PM
Plugs keep mud out.
I have ridden both bikes, The CRF has a broader harder pulling powerband and the YZF is snappier (more hit). Either bike will be competive in the pro class.

04-04-2002, 09:26 PM
i got a 426 in my garage right now. it one raw *** motor. the 450 has less of a hit aswell as the ktm 520. all you honda biased people are dumb.i would take the 450 over the yamaha cause it's smoother and it would be easier to ride. and i mrusk..i'm getting tierd of hearing these kids talk of getting full aftermarket bike when the damn know they ain't gonna and don't need it.

How much for Houser long travel +2 arms with the elka quad rates, brake lines, and a lonstar +4 axel? Let me get this straight, if I send you my stock rear shock you can rebuild it and it will work like a aftermarket shock or is it better just to buy a whole new aftermarket rear shock?

flying400ex, Give me a shout monday at the shop and I can work you up a package deal. The MacDaddy conversion is a great setup, we do about 30 of those for every one Elka rear shock. The only way I think you would need the Elka rear is if you are a very aggressive racer like in the Pro or A class.

We have had this Badlands Ride planned since December. I didn`t see TRX400EX there. I think my Brother did. I looked for a Banshee with LRD Pipes and a Yellow MX 400ex and didn`t see anything. I rode with Adams44 some. Those Guys are Nuts. I`m not sure what I did to my Thumb and my other Finger. I hope they aren`t Broke. Rather then that it was Fun.

Yeah I think I was one of the Loudest 400ex`s there. I know mine was Louder then Adams44. He has a Sparks Pipe. You will like the Sparks.

trx400ex, I don't think anyone makes long travels for Banshee's (someone correct me if I'm wrong). .

They do make a Lobo II kit for the banshee, raptor, 400ex, and 250r (according to Duncan). you can see a pic on the banshee at:
