I have a basically stock 400ex motor, only thing i have done is remove the choke, put a K&N on it and i done a mod to the stock exhaust to get better flow and i have rejetted for all this.

-My question is can i use the xr gaskets with my stock piston. If posible what will it raise my compression to?Will i need to use a xr base gasket and a head gasket?

no, what you'll have to do is get a new honda gasket set, then get a new XR400 head gasket, I have one not used hanging on my wall if you'd like it.-darren

PS- my head gasket I meen the gasket between the bottom of the head and the cylinder, just to make things clear.

A stock XR gasket set will bring your compression ratio up to stock XR compression ratio. It 10.something:1 vs your 9.something:1. Sorry, can't remember exactly what stock is on either at the moment.

All I know is the head gasket alone will bump the compression up .3 -darren

does anyone have any more info on this?im thinking aobut doing it when I put my cam in in a week or so.So this xr400 gasket is the gasket between the head and cylinder? Will I have to run race gas with this?I shouldnt, seeing as you dont need race gas on a stock xr400,am I correct? What can I expect?Finnaly, how will this effect reliablity?

Thank you and sorry for any spelling errors.

1st answer-Course!
2nd answer-yes
3rd-No, you would only had to start using some race gas if you put a 10.8 to 1 piston in, (with the xr gasket= 11.1 to 1 compression)
4th-see ^
5th-You should feel a small boost in bottom end power.
6th-It will make it just a slight bit less reliable, but definetly Nothing to be worried about at all.
