I've got a spare motor laying around and was thinking about building a 500EX out of it. I just don't want to have a hand grenade for a motor. Has anybody had any major problems with there's. I would be happy with half a season before a rebuild.

I've had my 502 since 99'. I'd call that reliable! I've only refreshed the cyclinder up twice. I'm unloading my 502 now to build my 450r to 567 :)

Any clutch or transmission trouble? How much and how hard do you ride it?

I ride real hard up serious climbs in PA and XC over 100miles per day ride. No tranny trouble if change oil lots, and used heavy duty CR500 clutch springs with shims.

Who did the crank for you and what kind of rod did you use?

Falicon cranks in Florida is awesome for crank work. Mickey Onelap sold me my +7mm crank, originally. The rod is a Vesrah 1014.

how much will a good, reliable 500 kit cost, from a good engine builder, with a motor that will last me a good season of racing.

Oh Chad it looks like your back to name calling. Don't buy a well used bike from this guy it's pile. He burnt his bridge with me and I will not sell him or his buddies parts any more so the motor is ready to go. Oh and it's " Wonlap" to you as in I won every lap.:
