okay, this morning when i went to my computer and started up internet explorer, my homepage was changed from exriders to some smartsearch page. I opened up my favorites to go to exriders, and my favorites were chock full of porn sites. so, i deleted all of them changed my homepage, cleared history/cookies,and ran adaware. when i opened up internet explorer....it was still this "Smartsearch" page, i tried multiple times to change it, but it keeps coming back.

If anyone knows whats going on pleaseeee tell me, im pretty mad right now b/c im guessing someone was on my computer.

Thanks in advance
mike

You need to goto control panel > add & remove programs and check if that smartbar or whatever its called is installed there, if it is delete it, if not, update adaware and it will fix it.

If your still having problems goto -Tools- in ur IE window, and click on internet options, delete all cookies, and change ur homepage manualy. Hope that helps ya out !

If u tried all that, then it should of worked, there no other way that i can think of that you could still possibly have those cookies in ur computer.

What version of windows? No one has been in your computer. This is a typical problem with internet users. You've now joined the club...of most.

IE -> tools -> internet options -> settings -> view files -> edit -> select all -> delete -> yes -> ok -> ok -> change the homepage back to whatever -> apply -> ok

Try Spybot, see what that finds.

If you are using XP. Hit ctrl-alt-del. What do have running? Hit the processes tab, how many processes do you have running?

well after changing all that stuff and deleting the program, did u change your home page back to what u originally had, thenr estarted the puter, and checked to see if it stayed?

if not, well stay away from those porn sites with their spyware ;)

if none of that works you can always run a recovery on your computer.

or you can throw it away like a mac and get a new one

Yea, same exact thing happened to mine except it happened from my older brother on sites with a virus linked into it.

As far as I know, there is NO saving it. I have tried everything everyone has said and it's still there...just sit back and watch your computer die:( .

Oh well, glad I had a nicer backup:D .

*******...I keep trying to do a system recovery but it won't let me, no matter how far I go back...seems like the virus is programmed to not let you delete it or get rid of it through recovery or anti-virus downloads.

It will come back. It was probably a trojan virus that was not being detected by your antivirus program. I would suggest installing a good antivirus program and use either the google toolbar to block popups or don't use Internet Explorer. I use Mozilla Firefox, popups are non-existant. Welcome to the new nature of the internet.

I had the same thing happen to me. The only way I got rid of it was to format my harddrive and reinstall everything, A big PAIN IN THE *** but now it works better than before. Alot of times your computer get filled up with junk even after you clear the cookies and all the other stuff. I reinstall windows and all my programs every 6 months. And it all works fine..

James:)

It's horrible that it's come to this, people have to basically start their computer completely over every 6 months so it doesn't get overrun from viruses and pop ups...I hate this world, gets worse everyday:grr: .

I still haven't found a way to save my other computer, I want to get all my music files ontop a Zip drive but i don't want to run the risk of transfering the virus to my other computer...
