I'm in need of new tires and rims for the front of my 300. I'm going to get 23x7x10 Razrs, but should I get the Hiper Technology carbron fibers rims from Beerock, or get the Douglas Ultimate with beadlock. Which would you recomend?

I'd say if your going to be doing hard riding and are looking for rims that will hold up to punishment then i'd say those carbon fiber things. But in my opinion i think the douglas look better

deffinatly go w the carbon fibler rims

Carbon fiber. Everything about the carbon fibers is better than the douglas ultimates. The hiper rims are the last rims you will ever have to buy!

I would go with douglas the only reason you need the carbon fiber is if you wreck cause the douglas wont bend unless you wreck really bad.

Get the carbon fibers. That's what I was faced with. But for the price, you can't beat them. You won't find ones cheaper, even the aluminums.

We just got our first shipment of carbon fiber wheels in today. I have to say that I never felt like I needed beadlocks but after seeing these I snatached up a set and put them on my R. VERY NICE. The only draw back I noticed is that they are 1/2" wider per wheel in the front than my Douglas 4+1's. So now with my +1 a-arms and these new carbon fibers wheels I am a little wider in the front than in the rear. :(
Another thing is I wish they would taper bore the lug holes like Douglas Ultimates so you can use the lug nuts the right way.

Jeff,

Did you put a set on the rear? If so what size and offset?

Ray

03-26-2002, 08:06 PM
I'm not going to say that I have not wrecked real bad, cuz I know I had a few crashes........... Ok, more than a few.:blah My Douglas Ultimate Beadlock rims are holding up ok, got some flat spots on both my 10" rear rims.... my 9" rear rims are holding up nice. My 10" front rims seem ok, but when I received my HiPer carbon fiber rims.......... WOW! I really like these bad boys.

I recommend the HiPer rear rims with dual beadlocks if you are going to do some rough terrain and jumps. If the Douglas rims came with reinforcement rings for the inside, I'd think that would be an improvement, but I not sure if they would still be in the same league as those HiPer rims. As for looks, I didn't like the black wheels at first, but I have grown to like them. I still prefer the look of aluminum over the look of black rims, but again, I'm starting to really like these HiPer rims.

As for front rims, I don't really know what the advantage is other than the HiPer rims maybe a little lighter. And again, the HiPer rims are modular, so you can replace parts if need be...... Cool:cool:

Note: I wish the HiPer rims came with the countersunk holes too!! :grr The Douglas Ultimate have countersunk holes:cool:

which rims did you get jeff?
the 4+1 or the 3+2 sounds like you got the 3+2

I dont think you can taper bore the carbon material.

That is so not true, they help the suspension work more efficiently too and they flex more than an aluminum rim.

CBRSLIDER, I only put the fronts on. We didn't get any Honda rears in this shipment only yamaha.

beerock, I did get the 4+1's. I called HiPer just to check and they said that their 4+1 rims are indeed 1/2" wider in the front per wheel than the Douglas 4+1's.
The lug holes are in the alum. part of the wheel.

Dave400ex

Yeah I would say Hiper is the Best. If you ever do anything to a Hiper Rim they will Replace that Part for $30. No other Company can Beat that.

Dave400ex

Papaw, How well is Hiper about Replaceing the Broken Parts? Which Part did you Break? Where did you get your Rims?

Foxrage
03-29-2002, 07:25 AM
They are more prown to braking then the douglas but its cheaper to fix.

Dave400ex
03-29-2002, 10:30 AM
I have heard about the Carbon Rims Breaking, but when your Douglas Rims Bend, you have to Buy New ones. With the Hiper Rims you just Replace some Parts.

mrusk
03-29-2002, 10:37 AM
Yea but how many people have u heard of that bent or broke there Ultimate Douglas billet beadlocks or the rolled edge fronts? And i am not talking about hitting a tree or something, but jumping. I never even heard of someone breaking a champion beadlock.

Some of the parts i buy for my R i buy with safty in mind. I wouldnt want to be landing a big jump and have my carbon fiber rims break and risk injurying myself, even if the rims are repariable. Hope you get what i am saying.

matt

Dave400ex
03-29-2002, 10:47 AM
Mrusk, I really haven`t heard much about Bending or Breaking Rims in MX. In the XC Racing I want to do, it will be more of a Problem. I would rather have a Rim I could Repair then have to Buy a whole New Rim.

I don`t think you have to worry about Breaking a Carbon Fiber Rim in MX Racing. If they Broke all the Time, Travis Spader would not be Running them. It`s just like some other Parts, one Guy has bad luck with something and tells everybody they are not Good. I would say the Hiper Rims are the Best you can Buy. I do get what your Saying though.

mrusk
03-29-2002, 10:54 AM
The hipers proably are the best on the market right now and the trickest looking, i guess the point i was trying to make in my last point is that the majority of people are just wasting there money on them because they dont need it. But what people do with there money is none of my business.

matt

Dave400ex
03-29-2002, 11:06 AM
Yeah I think a lot of Guys just want the Best, but I don`t think there is a Single Guy on here that could say he doesn`t want the Best. The Hiper Rims are Sweet.

03-30-2002, 05:53 PM
A guy I know rode with spader in Florida while he was testing the carbon fiber rims and he broke at least 3 sets. It's funny cause Hiyper says he never broke any.FALSE ADVERTISING

Dave400ex
03-30-2002, 06:58 PM
Those Rims on the KTM are really Cool. So is that Girl. LOL. The Douglas Rims are really Sweet. I just Wish the Rear Rims had a Ring or something inside for more Strength.

Spader broke some Rims? That is Good to Know. I am starting to hear Bad things about the Carbon Fiber Rims. I still like the Part of them having Replaceable Parts. Which Rims would you Guys get?

Foxrage
03-30-2002, 07:16 PM
Ya they just came out after like the break 10 times in one year you could of bout a new set of douglas that wont break atleast for a yaer.

Dave400ex
03-30-2002, 07:18 PM
Sure the Douglas won`t Break for a Year, but if the Douglas do Break you are Stuck Paying for a whole New Rim.

MOOCAZEN
04-02-2002, 08:56 AM
you have any idea of how much those new douglas rims cost? ill put it to you this way, i went to Duncan racing and they had Eichners mx banshee, they told me close to a grand, without the tires, maybe that will help some people out when buying

Dave400ex
04-02-2002, 09:23 AM
Really? I would never Pay anywhere close to that for those Rims. I think I will be getting the Carbon Fibers.

Dave400ex
04-02-2002, 10:53 AM
$220 for a Rim? Man, what if you Bent one of those? Now that would be a Killer.

04-02-2002, 11:02 AM
It's funny how all of you say the carbon fiber rims are the best even though you don't own them or ever had. this is the problem. People say stuff they don't even own or had expriance with is the best. If you don't own it or have own it don't put in a any words saying how good it is. The carbon wheels are a fade that will die with time. carbon will shater after a while and those douglas rimes will probably out last them. You pay for what you get. I personaly wouldn't brag on carbon rims. Just like the 01 Raptor there new and untested. Until i own a set and they do actually last i will not be trusting of them. And since i'd purchase the time tested douglas rims over these new carbon rims i will never buy a set.

MOOCAZEN
04-02-2002, 11:06 AM
lrd trx416, i have them have had them for a while and i've abused them in every kind of terrain you can think of, especially in rocky areas, i had one side hit from a banshee at full speed, rammed into my rim, dent his, nothing happened to mine, i am mx now and they have stood the abuse, dont generalize, and like you said, you dont have them so dont say nothing

Foxrage

LRD has a Point. We are just giving our Thoughts.

What do you Guys think of the Race Rims?

trx400ex
04-02-2002, 11:46 AM
lrd is about 100% right IMO, i just bought a set of beadlocks, i was going to get the carbon fibers, but i dont trust them, so i got the tried and true ..douglas

Dave400ex
04-02-2002, 11:47 AM
Did you get the Conventional Center or the Billet Center?

04-02-2002, 11:50 AM
I do like the looks of the hipers and the new technology,,but I'll always use douglas rims.. :blah

Dave400ex
04-02-2002, 11:53 AM
Rico, How have your Race Rims held up. They are a Bit Cheaper.

04-02-2002, 12:00 PM
Well I've got them dirty.......hmmmmmmmmmmm...that's about it,,no dents, dings, flat spots, ect. there working perfect,,but I'm thinkin off gettin some for the fronts too,,cuz I've got a few flat spots from landing jumps on big rocks at some of the crappy tracks I go too..I've yet to bust the bead on the rears too,,and I hammer it in corners.

Dave400ex
04-02-2002, 12:04 PM
How do you think they would Work for XC Racing/Riding?

04-02-2002, 12:16 PM
Gabe uses them.....that should tell ya sumtin,,,I think they would work awesome for XC.

Dave400ex
04-02-2002, 12:18 PM
Gabe uses Those? Well Heck they must be Good. I might have to get those. How much were Yours?

04-02-2002, 12:34 PM
The rears are about $100 each.

Dave400ex
04-02-2002, 12:39 PM
That`s not Bad. Are the Fronts the Same? Where did you get Yours?

04-02-2002, 12:43 PM
The fronts are a little more expensive,,,I got mine at magic racing.
For the front and back rims and holeshot MX tires it cost me around $500 total.

Dave400ex
04-02-2002, 12:55 PM
I will have to Check out Dirtwheels and see who Sells them the Cheapest.

Scott
04-02-2002, 01:04 PM
I don't have any experience with the Douglas rims, so I can't comment on them. But the Hiper rims and Champion beadocks I do have some experience with. I run champion beadlocks with inner rings, and 2 quads I ride with have the HiPer rims. All three are pretty darn tough to tear up. I did see a carbon ring break when my cousin hit a steel casing vent in 4th gear (it still held air by the way). And HiPer replaced it free, via air mail, so he would have the parts before the next race. Only reason I don't have them is the price, about $750 for a set of 4. That's more than I will pay.

Foxrage
04-02-2002, 05:36 PM
If your racing XC i would get beadlocks because the will keep them on the rims better i was at a race where bill balance got a flat and instead of droping back he stayed where he was all race with a flat tire. he still finished second but he was there the whole race i guess he couldnt keep up with the old KX250.

Dave400ex
04-02-2002, 05:40 PM
I don`t know what to do. I wanted Carbon Fiber Rims, but I am not hearing good things about them. So I asked about the Race Rims, and now Guys are saying Beadlocks. I really want Beadlocks, but for Local XC Racing do I need them?

04-02-2002, 05:55 PM

04-02-2002, 06:02 PM

matt

Dave400ex
04-02-2002, 06:05 PM
Well that`s what I thought, but the Rear Race Wheels are $115 and the Douglas Conventional Center Beadlocks are $130. I have heard that the Inside of the Douglas will get Flat Spots because there is no Ring or anything. I don`t want that. My Neighbor got Race Rims on his Polaris so I will have to see how they Work for him.

I haven't heard anything bad since the updated style came out. A couple things I didn't like about my alum. beadlocks were: They end up getting warped (after a couple seasons of pro XC), and they hold rocks and mud in the wheel, you can't replace the parts for $30ea.
