well i bought my rockford 1500bd amp about a year ago and its a kickin amp, the papers that came with it showed it register 1780 watts continuos power. SO i told my friend to go out and get a rockford amp about a week ago. he comes home with a "600" watt amp and his papers said it registered 280 watts. my friend said rockford was bought out. but wtf is up with that BS

i hadn't heard that. but if they did get bought out then that doesn't surprise me that quality went down. that really sucks.

check the rms on the amp and what class it is before you buy one:)

Let me guess a 601S amp? Rockford always seems to over print there power ratings? I really dont understand why?

when the amp claims its MAX wattage, its usually only a VERY small surge.... never use an amp based on the MAX wattage...always use RMS. This is a way for amp companies to sell their amps with big numbers on them (and usually using cheap components too)

Rockford is still a good company.

The power difference is because they are different style amps. Most common amps are class A/B or class D. Class D can only be used for subs but has a higher efficiency. Its a trade off, more power, but it can only be used for subs. Class A/B amps can be used for highs and subs, use more power to put out the same watts, and have a higher damping factor.

Your 1500bd is a class D amp. When they rate class D amps, they rate them w/ the rms wattage. They are generally monoblock amps. So your 1500bd is going to do at least 1500 watts rms into one channel.

That other amp is a class A/B. When they rate those amps they rate them w/ the max power ouput. Usually these are 2 or 4 channel amps. So when they say 600 watt amp, expect around 300 rms when bridged.

So no one got shafted, just know what your buying. :D

Rockford use to put the true rating on there amps. If you bought a 800S it had 800+ watts.

Last yr. they changed this now they label the peak watts, so your 800s is gonna now be labeled as 1600 watts.

Its a crappy way but everyone else is doing it so I guess they just jumped on the bandwagon.

i hear alpine is one of the few now who still marks thier higher end in "real" watts
