My friends got a nice 400 with Maxxis All Traks, powerbomb header with fmf powercore exhaust, he's also got a K&N jet kit. Last time he was over he was talkin about getting a 16 tooth front sproket and I wasnt sure if he sure really do this. Would it just bog a lot more then he would really want? Oh yeah, and we usually just ride trails, jumps, and sometimes in fields. Thanks.

well correct me if i'm wrong but can't you only get the all-tracs in 22's?? if so the 16 would be pretty fast and really tall gearing for a realitivly stock bike i guess if your winding out all the time you would but if your not always running out of gears then i think it would be kinda pointless and just harder on your bike and clutch

I think he needs to leave the 15 on there,,,I wouldn't put a 16 on a piped 400ex,,not enough umph I don't think..Yeah it will work,,but I don't think it's a good idea.

after goin with a 416 kit I dropped 2 teeth on the rear sprocket and I love this setup,,tell your buddy to leave the stock gearing on there..

I agree w/ Rico & Chad. I have a 16t that I use, and it's great for riding along long straightaways (like powerline roads, etc), but for CC or MX type riding, it doesn't have the get-up-and-go that it needs (still good, but not quite to my liking). Once or if you get a 416 kit or larger, I would say it's worth spending 15 bucks to see if you like it or not.

Even with a 416 the 16t is too high!! Mine was very stout and it was still too high. Stock gearing is best or maybe a tooth or 2 down on the rear.!!
