i am in the process of turning my 87 250R into a race ready quad in time for the start of next season. i do not want to go all out and have a $30K quad, yet, i just want a good competive quad and has i get i will build my quad better. i was wondering if anyone has any advice or tips to aid me in the process (maybe what to get, what to stay clear of...stuff like that.) I know ever one is going 4 stroke but, i love the R.

thanks

I'm kinda partial to Houser +3+1 LT A-Arms, Elka LT ZPS Comp Adj only, RPM +1+4 Axle with RPM Anti-Fade Lock Nut / Brake Hub, Houser +1 Anti-Vibe Steering Stem. I love my Roll Design foot pegs as well. AC nerfs. Mine still has stock engine only because it's all I can handle. But alot of guys are running 310's and 330's for MX. Alot of guys also drop back to a -1 on the rear swingarm to help keep the front end down. I have stock length on mine but I did buy a Houser. Good luck!!! I just did mine over the winter and had a lot of fun rebuilding it. I also did what Jeff said as far as gusseting and PC the frame. Highly recommend the gussets if you have a stock frame.

-1? the 88-89 length is +1 over the 86-87 isnt it? -1 would bring the front end up. also stay away from alum swingarms, they break :blah: with the stock frame you need to gussett it and powdercoat it, you will need to brace it around the foot pegs, and up that main bar. ive broken both my frames there. also brace around the steering stem, ive heard it cracks there also.

Not real sure on the difference between the 86-87 and the 88-89. I always thought the -1 would bring the front end up as well. I asked the same question because most 4 strokes will run a +1 swingarm for more leverage but I was told by both Houser and Herrmann Racing that they run -1 swingarms to keep the front end down. However, I do not have any personal experience using a -1. I ran the stock swingarm until I broke it then purchased the stock length swingarm from Houser.

i thought the motor could be no larger than 265cc for mx, unless you race in the open class? but i don't really know.

I have a friend that just raced at High Point in the Open A and 25+ classes and he was runnin a 310 PV. So I think it's OK but I'm like you, not really sure.

tear that mofo down and gussett it, then add the good stuff..shocks, arms, swing arm, axle, all that :bandit:
