Does anybody have pics of Houser A-arms (red or silvervein) on a yellow 400ex? I'm trying to decide which color would look the best with a stock color frame. thanks.

03-26-2002, 12:34 PM
It's not yeller but there housers...:D

Those are the exact same A-arms I just ordered from "thequadshop", along with a set of Elka Triple rates. They gave me a GREAT deal and EXCELLENT service(thanks Jeff). I also just ordered a new Lonestar Axle from Marcum's which was also VERY good deal. I'll post pics as soon as they come :)

What Width A-Arms did you get? What Color? Did you get Comp. Adjust on the Shocks or Comp. and Rebound Adjust? Let me know how you like the Shocks. Your 400 is going to look Sweet.

Holty

I got the "exact" same setup a-arms as Rico. The Red Houser +1s. As for the shocks, I just got the basic triple rates w/ ssd. I'm not sure if they are adjustable or not and I did not get the rezzies. I just hope with the longer axle and a-arms my quad will fit on my trailer lol.

Dave400ex
03-26-2002, 02:21 PM
I saw the "Exact" in there, but I just thought you were talking about the Color. It`s going to look Sweet. It should fit on your Trailer. Your not adding that Much.

03-26-2002, 02:38 PM
Holty,,what kind of riding do you mainly do????

Holty
03-26-2002, 03:32 PM
Rico:

Mainly I ride aggressively in the woods and some small motocross tracks with small to medium sized jumps. I do not race though I would like to someday. Why do you ask?

Warriorman:

I sure hope so :) My trailer is only 4ft. wide.

03-26-2002, 03:43 PM
I was asking because if you wanted to go a little wider on the front get some offset wheels for mx riding and use the stockers for trail.....your gonna love that new front end..

And your gonna be hangin your rear tires barely off the side of the trailer,,I too have a 4 foot wide trailer and the dang quad is wider than the trailer.

I ordered the +2 Housers from Quadshop (don't have them yet) and I am going to use 4+1 (1 inch offest outside) front rims for trails/cross country and the stockers for mx. The stock front rims are +2 offest on the outside. It would be equivalant to +1 a-arms with stock rims when set up for the trails. This shouldn't be too wide, I'm waiting on a LSR axle which is +1.5 wider than stock when you have the hubs adjusted in and it doesn't look terribly wide either. :p

Dave400ex
03-26-2002, 04:53 PM
Smoker, What kind of Shocks do you have.

Foxrage
03-26-2002, 07:05 PM
I am not sure what color to get yet its a hard desision. Do you have to order the 4+1 special or do all douglas come that way? I want +3 arms but i dont want to get out of ama width and heard 4+1 will make right around the width with +3 a-arms. I dont know if i will actually race but if these rims last me till i can race i want to use them so i dont have to buy new ones. If not ill just get +2 a-arms.

Smoker

Warriorman, I have the Elka tripple rate SSD comp adjust coming tomorrow since I missed the UPS man today. I'm sure I'll be impressed with them after I get them set up. I had a pair of works tripple rates and was fairly impressed with them. It's unbelieveable how much of a difference a pair of shocks will make, you'll be faster everywhere with more control and less fatigue. I'm pretty happy about getting my bike completely set up, I have a real understanding wife. You have to order the 4+1 specifically and a lot of people use them with +3 a-arms. I know a guy who put the Houser +3 long travel a-arms on his 350rx and had to use that offset for it to turn properly. :p

Dave400ex
03-26-2002, 07:43 PM
NACS, Go with a Red Frame, Chrome Subframe, Chrome Steering Stem, Gray Hammertone Bottom A-Arms, Chrome Top Arms, and Gray Hammertone Swingarm. That`s kind of how the Nac`s Quads use to look when Gust was with Nac`s. They were Sweet back then. Don`t get +3 A-Arms. I read somewhere they are Overkill on a 400EX. Just get +2. You will be Happy.

Smoker, You will have to tell us how you like the Shocks. I really want Shocks. I know I could Ride Faster if my Suspension could Handle it.

You should have called Houser direct and asked them who would most likely have there a arms in stock. Houser is out of stock and the guy at houser said to try Legacy ATV and James Lucky. Well Legacy ATV didn't have any. But James Lucky sure did! I ordered them last friday and should be getting them any day now. I got there last pair of chrome tops and silvervien bottoms. ;)

How much did the Houser arms cost from the quad shop. I bought mine from Marcums!! Couldnt really imagine getting a better deal than I got!!!

Holty
03-27-2002, 08:58 AM
I called Terry for prices on the Houser's and his price was higher than what I paid. Out of respect to Jeff@thequadshop I can't say exactly what I paid. Sorry. But, I did get the best price from Terry on my Lonestar axle. He beat everyone on the price and I should have it by this weekend. Again, out of respect, I won't say what I paid. But rest asure, I don't stop until i get the very best price i can.

ChadEXer
03-27-2002, 10:01 AM
Same here. And out of respect for Terry i also can tell you how much i paid but nobody even got close to the price! I have spent a lot of money with Terry. Maybe he just hooks me up:D

400exRacerX, Your 400 is going to look really Sweet now. It should be all ready to MX Race.

Chad, Didn`t you Pay like $475? I know somebody said they got Houser A-Arms for $475 from Marcum`s. That is a Good Deal.

Jeff also can get very Good Deals. He told me he will try to Beat any Price.

400exRacerX
03-28-2002, 09:40 PM
Yeah I'll be racing district 34 this year and I'll be hittin up one national at Mt Morris PA in June. I didn't get too far today in installing the new arms since I only had a hour and could only budge 2 of the 4 stock balljoints out of the spindles. They will be finished tomorrow.

Dave400ex
03-28-2002, 09:44 PM
Please Post Pictures when you are Done.

I got them on today and all adjusted perfect, but I forgot to bring the digital camera to the garage....hehe.

I'll bring it tomorrow and get pics. All I can say is it is wide as he!! now and handles like a champ.

The only problems I ran into were getting the stock balljoints off and adjusting the new a arms was trial and error.

400exRacerX
03-29-2002, 09:37 PM
Yes I did, my friend has the nitrogen tanks to recharge the shocks. Its not really difficult and the only reason why I never said anything about it before is because I don't want my pirvate mail inbox filled with PM's about people wanting there shocsk done. I'm very sorry but I don't have enough time to be able to run side jobs valving shocks.;)

Dave400ex

Foxrage
04-02-2002, 10:20 AM
Those a-arms look black to me. Why did you get unfinished a-arms. Was it cheaper or did you do it so you were able to powdercoat everything the same.

Dave400ex
04-02-2002, 10:25 AM
They look Black to me too. Chad is going to Powdercoat everything the Same.

400MXer
04-02-2002, 04:02 PM
powdercoat your tie rods too....that looks cool.

Dave400ex
04-02-2002, 05:28 PM
400MXer, Are your Tie Rods Powdercoated? I want to see how the Black Bottom and Chrome Tops look.

Foxrage
04-02-2002, 05:30 PM
I wouldnt powder coat them it they are chrome. Unless you bent them then the chrome will chip.

Dave400ex
04-02-2002, 05:34 PM
I would Chrome the Top A-Arms, Tie Rods, Steering Stem, and maybe the SubFrame. I have heard a Couple Guys say the Chrome is Chipping off their SubFrames. I guess I could just get a Laeger SubFrame.

400MXer
04-02-2002, 05:42 PM
no, mine aren't powdercoated...but i saw a quad once with red lower arms, chrome upper arms, and red tie rods...and i thought it looked pretty cool. I too want a chrome steering stem and a chrome subframe...i used to want a chrome swingarm untill i heard how bad it chips...so i'm getting a black swingarm. and hopefully, i'll top it all off with some silver fullbore plastic, if i can get it next winter.

Dave400ex
04-02-2002, 05:51 PM
I would go with Chrome Tie Rods. I have never seen Powdercoated ones.

400MXer, Is this your Setup you are Doing? Black Frame, Chrome SubFrame, Black Bottom Arms, Chrome Tops, Chrome Steering Stem, and Black Swingarm?

Foxrage
04-02-2002, 05:54 PM
Dont forget the silver plastic.

Dave400ex
04-02-2002, 06:06 PM

Foxrage
04-02-2002, 07:23 PM
I think it is silvervain or black just a guess. It may be blue.

Dave400ex
04-02-2002, 07:27 PM
Well I just looked at Creech`s Orange 250r he had at Orrville. It had a Silvervein or Gray Hammertone Powdercoat with Orange Plastic.

400MXer
04-02-2002, 07:31 PM
yup, everything on the chassis will be either black or chrome...black frame, lower arms, swingarm. Chrome upper arms, subframe, and steering stem.

Then silver fullbore plastic with a quad tech seat. i'm not gonna buy the quad tech hood scoop anymore..i don't want to waist my money since i'm just gonna be putting full bore on it.

Foxrage
04-02-2002, 07:44 PM

400exRacerX
04-02-2002, 09:25 PM
Well, I put the a arms to the test this past weekend until I wrecked due to getting hit from behind. I was so angry I only managed to snap a pic of the quad in the trailer. Note: how it sits crooked. Mines in the back. I'm washing it tomorrow so hopefully I'll remember the camera.:p

Dave400ex
04-02-2002, 09:45 PM
How Big is that Trailer? It looks Nice. Could you get some Pictures of that 250r too? That is Nice.

400exRacerX
04-02-2002, 09:49 PM
Oh thats Rich Buckley's Semi. Its a 53ft trailer with a kenworth big rig tractor w/72 inch bed pulling it. It has 20ft garage area and 33ft of living space. Its a nice rig for about $200,000.00:p We sure do get alot of looks from people when pullin up to the track.:p What R are you talking about the black one?

Dave400ex
04-02-2002, 09:58 PM
What is he a Jr. Nac`s? Geez. A Semi? Is he going to be at Red Bud? How many 250R`s does he have? Post some Pictures of the Semi too. I was talking about the Red/Yellow R.

400exRacerX
04-02-2002, 10:03 PM
This would be thee red/yellow R, he has 4 250r's. But the black 250 is my bud Bob's. I didnt get the other R in the pic which was behind me. I guess hes got alot of money, but I sure felt like a king traveling in the semi. It basically looks like a 18 wheeler but only has 12:p . The trailer is sick, next time we ride I'll get a pic of the hole thing. And he will be attending all the mx nationals this year. Note: this is the same 250r but with new fenders and mx tires.

Dave400ex
04-02-2002, 10:09 PM

He`s in the Pro Class? What is his Name?

04-03-2002, 08:28 AM
I just thought I'd throw this in here after reading the chrome chipping thing...If the job is not done right it will chip,,I asked my buddy about this (he chromes anything and everything for a large company). He mentioned that after chrome is applied,,it needs to be reheated to reduce the size of the nitrogen gases that get trapped,,if it's not heated for the final step the chrome will break down. Any thing he's chromed for me or others,,he garuantees it not to chip,,if it does he'll fix it free of charge,,also he said if something is chromed right,,you can bend it at a 90 degree angle and it won't chip or crack..so if any of you do want chroming the right way let me know,,this guy is a little more expensive than most,,but it's got a garauntee with it......just wanted to give you all some input ..enough ramblin..:D

Dave400ex
04-03-2002, 08:34 AM
Thank You Rico. I am now thinking about a Chrome SubFrame. That is Cool he stands behind his Work. How much would it be to Chrome a SubFrame?

around $150 - $175

Dave400ex
04-03-2002, 08:40 AM

ChadEXer
04-03-2002, 08:45 AM

Dave400ex
04-03-2002, 08:55 AM

Well then just get New Plates. That should solve your Problem. Just have somebody look at it and ask what`s wrong with it. I would Run Kendall GT1 SAE 40 Oil. That`s what I Run and it is Working good so Far.

Well if it`s Fifth Gear I wouldn`t be to Worried. Call Sparks or TC and ask about the Clutch. Maybe it needs Adjusted or something.

Dont run the maxima engine oil. The pros run it because it only stays in their bike for about 20 minutes. Just go buy some GTX or something in 10 40. If you call Hinson up that is what they will tell you to run.

BELEIVE ME I CALLED HOUSER, THE REASON IS BCAUSE THEY ARE FOR +2 FOR 16 INCH SHOCKS, REMEMBER THAT THEY CONSIDER THEM LONG TRAVEL BECAUSE OF THE BALL JOINTS, THERES A HUGE REINFORCEMENT IN THE BOTTOM AND THE BOTTOM BALL JOINT IS CUPPED LIKE THE ROLL DESIGN, WHY DO YOU GUYS THINK I QUESTIOINED IT WHEN I GOT THEM??? HELLO???;)

MOOCAZEN

LONG TRAVEL CONSIST OF THE BALL JOINTS AND BETTER QUALITY, SUPPOSEDLY THATS WHAT THEY TOLD ME, I XPLAINED I HAD THESE SHOCKS, THEY SAID THESE WERE BETTER THAN THE STANDARD HOUSER A-ARMS, I PERONALLY LIKE THEM, IM LOOKING INTO GETTING A WALSH SETUP AND I CALLED EAST COAST ATV, THEY SAID THEY WOULD BE ABLE TO HELP ME
