2004 GNC Round #9 High Point

Mt. Morris, PA was the ninth stop of the GNC Series, and the weather was picture perfect for this weekend of racing. The fresh dry mountain air and Temps in the Mid 70's with mostly clear skies made for an awesome Father's Day Weekend for racing.

The MX track at High Point traverses two hill sides and drops down into the valley which makes for a great natural terrain outdoor track.

The track has plenty of high speed uphills and downhills and some awesome step up jumps that aren't for the weak of heart.

The track was in great shape for racing this weekend and the fans crowded the bleachers to watch the racers clear the huge double and table top on the finish line stretch (Upper center of photo)

Ray Christy & Maxxis tires organized games Saturday Night for the kids which was extremely fun to watch.

One event was the tire toss!

Then there was the three legged man race, which brought out some pretty good laughs from the spectators.

Sunday Morning arrived before you knew it and everyone was up bright and early fixing breakfast before the racing action started at 9AM.

Giovanni Colon Ramos, Pureto Rico's Champion, made his first trip to race a GNC National in America. The nineteen year old Giovanni has been racing MX in Pureto Rico for 8 years and has dreamed about racing in the GNC Series for several years, and it almost happened last year until he broke his arm, which prevented the trip.

Media Allstars, Jorge Cuartas, helped cooridinate the arrival of Giovanni.

Giovanni Qualified for the Pro Class Main, which made for an even more exciting Father's Day Weekend.

The 450R Giovanni raced was brand new on Thursday and Elka Suspension, JB Racing, Douglas Wheels, Maxxis, DG Products, and many others donated their products to Giovanni to build into a race ready machine for the weekend. After spending all day Thursday assembling the quad Giovanni rode the 450R for the first time on Friday for Practice, which didn't give him much seat time on his new quad for the weekend.

Traci Cecco also tried her hand at racing MX with her great friend and racing partner Angela Moore.

With the help of Alba Action, Lonestar, Maxxis, Custom Axis, Hiper Wheels, Pro Armor, Team Safari, and many more sponsors Rick Cecco, Traci's Husband, converted one of her XC quads into a race ready MX Quad.

Another XC racer, Mike Benson, couldn't resist racing his new 450R at High Point considering it was almost in his backyard. Also a Big Thanks goes out to Mike Benson for making my trip to High Point possible:D

Lost Creek Cycles team rushed to rebuild Pat Brown's reshock and prep his YFZ before his early morning Pro Am Race. The Lost Creek Cycle team is a great group of racers and I look forward to seeing them at every race.

The man behind Lost Creek Cycles, Kevin, has been involved in ATV racing for years and always seems ready to help out anyone. with his Pro Rider, Jason Dunkelberger, out with a Broken wrist, he was able to spend more time enjoying the Pro race instead of keeping track of Jason, but I still bet he would trade to watch Jason fly around the track.

Legendary Engine Builder,Tom Carlson, was also in attendance. TC Racing Engines are some of the best engines built, and Tom is the man behind the company. He built Doug Gust's first DRZ400 based engine Quad before he ever signed with and rode for Factory Suzuki.

REM-N-S Productions is at every GNC event filming the racing action for ATV Sport Television. Rick Frisco that man behind REM-N-S is also the one that provided the great racing clips to EXriders.com from some of the earlier National events. Hopefully in the near future, he will be providing some more great footage to share with EXriders.com.

Also, they just released Havoc which is an awesome collection of racing action gone bad. I will be checking this movie out first hand and posting a review on it in the near future.

When I headed out to the track to capture some Amateur racing action, and I found Doug Gust also walking around the track. Doug was out watching the amateurs and looking to see which lines were the fastest.

Doug leading the GNC Pro Points didn't come just because he has great Factory Suzuki/Yoshimura backing. His success has comes from not taking anything for granted, and he knows the competition is extremely talented.

By walking the track, and watching the other racers, he may be able a save himself a few seconds everylap, which could be diffrence between making the Podium or not.

The Pit Crews make their last minute preps of the starting gate before the racers line up for the start of the race.

Everyone quickly lined up, and the gate dropped to start the 1st Moto of the "ATV Stampede"

The seeming eventful start quickly turned disastrous when several racers on the inside hooked up and sent them and their quads flying.

Jeremiah Jones, Tim Farr, Gilbert Attix, Kory Ellis, Joe Byrd, and Lason Luburgh were all involved.

Jone's YFZ flies through the air as he lands a few feet from Tim Farr who layed motionless on the ground. Kory Ellis was thrown over the bars.

Doug Gust incredibly avoided the pile up and grabbed the Holeshot with John Natalie Jr in 2nd!

EMT's and Jeff Russell quickly check on Tim Farr as he stands up, "Thank God". Jeremiah Jone's father races up the hill to check on his son, and Doug Morris and Mark Baldwin upright Tim's 450R.

Kory Ellis, Gilbert Attix, and Jason Luburgh quickly returned to the race uninjuried.

Tim Farr quickly recovers, and Jones and Farr with the help of their team remount their quad's. Joe Byrd sits on his after not being able to get it going to continue the race.

Amazingly, Tim Farr wasn't seriously injuried and took off like nothing ever happened!

Jeremiah Jones quickly followed Farr around the sweeping turn at the start of the race!

After the horrific start, thankfully no one was seriously injuried, and before I knew it the leaders where already coming around to complete the 1st lap.

To my surprise, #13 John Natalie Jr had already passed Doug Gust and took over the lead:eek:

Doug Gust was back to second after going wide on an uphill jumping turn which allowed John to slip by him on the inside.

#6 Tavis Cain, #12 Keith Little, #191 Dustin Wimmer, #32 Matt White, #66 Greg Meeks, and #107 Giovanni Colon Ramos were runing 3rd to 8th behind the leaders.

#9 Mike Walsh, #91 Jasmin Plante, and #411 Donald Lysinger rounded out the top 12 riders.

By the next lap, Natalie was still leading Gust and Dustin Wimmer made his pass on Keith Little and was closing in on Tavis Cain in third.

#53 Kory Ellis was on a mission after early crash and wasted no time working his way past riders as he moved toward the front of the pack.

Another International Racer, #117 Richard Tordoff made the trip from the United Kingdom to compete as a GNC Pro and was running 15th a few laps into the race.

#4 Tim Farr remained in 18th place, but continued to gain ground on the pack as he roosted around the track after almost being a lap down.

Jeremiah Jones was on the same mission and stayed only a few seconds behind Farr

Several laps into the race, John Continued to lead Gust, but Gust was still within striking distance.

Doug Gust had his Suzuki screaming to keep pace with Natalie Jr.

#191 Dustin Wimmer continued to put the pressure on #6 Tavis Cain as they head around this high speed offcamber turn which had Cain on the inside two wheeling it.

#91 Jasmin Plante remained in 7th behind #12 Keith Little and #32 Matt White

Tim Farr finally caught up to some of the riders and began working his through up one rider at a time.

Jeremiah Jones still the same distance behind Farr as in the beginning of the race also began to work his way past riders.

Meanwhile, John Natalie Jr continued to have an awesome race as he lead half way through the race.

Doug Gust didn't give John much breathing room as he was only a few seconds behind him.

#191 Dustin Wimmer made the pass on #6 Tavis Cain and now was chasing after Doug Gust

#6 Tavis Cain and #12 Keith Little were battling for 4th as they launched the huge uphill step up back to back, and the both landed within inches of one another.

Luckily, Keith Little didn't land on Tavis Cain, but unfortunately he couldn't stop fastest enough and ran his front tire up over Cain's rear axle.

Keith Little's front tire became lodged into Cain's YFZ, and they both couldn't move.

Meanwhile, #32 Matt White took advantage of the situation and made the easy inside pass into 4th place

#91 Jasmin Plante cruised around the outside and quickly moved up to 5th place.

#53 Kory Ellis worked his way from almost last all the way up to 6th Place, which was extremely impressive.

#8 Jason Luburgh who also was involved in the early wreck also rode hard with Ellis and was up to 7th

After being passed by several riders, Tavis Cain and Keith Little worked together to free their quads. Once seperated, the sprinted almost like a LaMonds Start to their quads to fire them up and get going before loosing anymore ground.

Keith Little got his fired up quickly and was off in running back in eigth place

Tavis Cain was a little slower to get started, and luckily he got it fired up as a train of racers came flying by. Mike Walsh was able to get the pass on Tavis and take over 9th with #309 Gilbert Attix, #107 Giovanni, and #411 Donald Lysinger all close behind.

Meanwhile, Greg Meeks loses it on a sweeping downhill turn and with #117 Richard Tordoff coming on fast.

[Admin]

Tordoff came with a few feet of hitting the flying Meeks, but he quickly turned his wheels to avoid the dreadful collision.

Meeks stumbles of the side of the track with his quad landing upright sideways on the hill. Richard Tearoff cleaning avoid meeks and moves into 14th place.

Tim Farr moves in to 15th after passing Meeks as he remounts his quad.

John Natalie Jr. continued to lead the race with Doug Gust losing a few seconds behind him and the Rookie, Dustin Wimmer, quickly closing in on Gust

#32 Matt White, Hetricks Racing, continued to also have an incredible race as he continued his charge in 4th place.

#91 Jasmin Plante was still in 5th, but #53 Kory Ellis was closing in fast!

with only a few laps to go, Kory Ellis passed both Jasmin Plante and Matt White and moved into 4th Place:eek: Kory Ellis was surely flying around the track, and probably would have given Natalie Jr, Gust, and Wimmer a run for their money if he didn't have such a rough start.

#8 Jason Luburgh who followed Ellis for most of the day also had a great come back, and ended up finishing 7th in front of Keith Little in 8th.

With just over one lap to go, #191 Dustin Wimmer worked his way up to be almost side by side with Doug Gust in 2nd!

John Natalie Jr. pulled a comfortable lead at the end and styled it for the crowd as he went over the finish line jumps to his 1st Moto Victory!!!

The crowd went wild, as Dustin Wimmer made his pass on Doug Gust on the last lap. Wimmer was able to hold Gust off and finish 2nd, which was truly an incredible moment.

With Ellis finishing in 4th, Matt White and Jasmin Plante battled for the 4th spot to the finish line with White maintaining his position in 5th.

Thanks, I use running around the MX course all day taking photos as training for racing GNCC Series Stock Class. Since, I never get to ride anymore accept at the races:(, but it must be working. Also, I sure could use to lose a few more pounds, so the running is really needed.

I know that a few riders got hurt this past weekend and I want to take a time out to give support and prayers for the people that did.

One rider that I know of Is Pro Rider Nate Frees. I got the opportunity to meet Nate at on of our local tracks, he was there in early spring when Iowa was froze over. I also got to talk to him at the Pro Quads Stadium Series in St. Louis where I took the pictures of the final round.

"Nate" I wish you a speedy recovery and keep your spirts high man!!

hey everyone, First off I also would like to say that my prayers are with nate and another kid that got hurt, I think his name was mike. I heard nate broke some vertabrae in his back, and mike broke his legs!! good luck and speedy recovery!!
The race coverage is great as usual. I actually had a 17 second lead over my teamate dustin. He had to come from about fourth or fith place to not only catch, but pass and pull a lead on the digger. Great ride dustin!! The answer to the food question is really alot of training and one heck of a team. When you have the best equipment out there it makes our job eaiser. If you want to go fast give east coast a call. thanks to all my other sponsers too.

Pro Moto 2

The stress of winning the 1st Moto really put some years on John Natalie, and when he showed up with his quad for the 2nd Moto, I could hardly recognize him:huh

Then I realized that was John Natalie not John Natalie Jr.:cool:

After having a great comeback in the 1st Moto, Kory Ellis was hoping for a better start in the 2nd Moto.

#91 Jasmin Plante lined up for what might be his last GNC race this year because he will be returning home to Canada to compete in their National series, and if his 2nd Moto is as good as the 1st he will be going home definitly on a good note.

With the Parade lap completed, the Pros lined up and wait for Jeff Russell to give them the signal before the gate drops.

The Gate Dropped, and the High Point 2nd Moto was underway!

Doug Gust once again grabbed the holeshot with #4 Tim Farr, #13 John Natalie Jr., and #53 Kory Ellis following side by side behind him as they rounded the 1st turn.

Unlike the 1st Moto, everyone rounded the corner without incident as they chased after #55 Doug Gust.

[Admin]

Once again, by the end of the 1st lap, #13 John Natalie Jr. had passed Doug Gust and was leading the race:macho

Kory Ellis and Doug Gust battled for the 2nd spot with #4 Tim Farr, #191 Dustin Wimmer, and #91 Jasmin Plante following close behind.

John Natalie Jr. looked so smooth as he flew around the track with Doug a few seconds behind him.

#55 Doug Gust was putting his Z to the test as he bottoms it completely out trying to keep pace with John.

[Admin]

Only a couple of laps into the race, and John Natalie was gradually developing a gap between him and Doug Gust, and it looked like he was going to walk away easily with the 2nd Moto.

Top 5 (Natalie Jr.,Gust, Ellis,Tim Farr, and Dustin Wimmer) developed a gap between them and the rest of the field

Just as everything was looking like it was going to be a perfect day for John Natalie jr., his YFZ became extremely loud all of a sudden as he once again launched the step up. John looks down in flight to try to figure out what was going on?

His YFZ was popping and sputtering the whole time through the air, and it didn't sound good at all.

When he landed, he continued to try to figure out what was wrong, and the way it sounded, it didn't seem like his machine was going to be able to stay out front or much less survive the entire race:(

Doug Gust quickly closed in the gap that John had earlier developed, but he seemed hesistant to get to close to John because of the way his YFZ, and didn't want to risk crashing into John if his Engine let go.

Kory Ellis had the start he needed and was vigorously chasing after the leaders.

#4 Tim Farr was running strong in 4th!

Once Again, Dustin Wimmer found himself in the top 5 and was looking to move up through the leaders as he did in the 1st Moto.

Jasmin Plante was on the gas in 6th Place

#6 Tavis Cain found himself back in 9th in the 2nd Moto after having a great start in the 1st Moto. He followed closely behind #8 Jason Luburgh and #12 Keith Little.

#7 Joe Byrd was running 10th after not even getting past the 1st turn in Moto 1.

#9 Mike Walsh was back to 13th behind #32 Matt White and #2 Jeremiah Jones.

#107 Giovanni Colon Ramos was back to 16th and had lost his nose piece to his 450R.

Local Pro Rider, #99 Justin Bres was back to 18th

To my amazement, half way through the race, John Natalie Jr continued to lead the race with Doug Gust right behind him, and John YFZ continued to sound like it was ready to guit at any minute.

Kory Ellis continued his charge in third, but hadn't gained any ground on Natalie Jr and Gust.

#191 Dustin Wimmer once again begain his charge to the front as he passed #4 Tim Farr to take over the 4th spot.

#4 Tim Farr wasn't letting up as he kept #191 Dustin Wimmer in his sights as he launched the step up.

Jeremiah Jones was running 11th and attempted to make the pass on Byrd, but they made contact which sent Jeremiah Jones off his quad and scuffing up his arm pretty good, which only added insult to injury to Jeremiah's rough day. #107 Giovanni Colon Ramos coasted around the track after experiencing problems with his rear shock, and he didn't want to rick injurying himself, but you could tell he was disappointed.

#55 Doug finished 2nd Overall with 3-2 finishes, and he found himself on the podium for the 9th time this year!!! Doug has been on the Podum at every race this season. Amazingly after all of his success with the LTZ400 this season, he is still the only rider on one. The Suzuki/Yoshimura team has definitly built and an awesome race machine, and they couldn't ask for a better rider.

The Overall Winner with 1-1 finishes #13 John Natalie Jr finally was able to pull off two great Motos back to back. John normally is one of the fastest guys on the track, but inevitably he suffers a set back in one moto which takes away his podium finish, but John overcame the demons this race and rode his heart out.

I have known John for years, and he has truly developed into an incredible racer and person over the years, and it is awesome to see him currently sitting in 2nd place in points behind Doug Gust.

I am sure this will be a Fathers Day that John's dad or family will never forget!!!

With the end of an incredible day of racing, the Giovanni Colon Ramos crew began tearing down the 450R and return the aftermarket parts to the donating manufacturers. The Giovanni family was extremely grateful for all the support they received in their trip to America. Awesome coverage Harlen. I didn't know that was you or I would have said something to you. You parked right by us behind the Moto-T's stand. We were the big group of Cannondales with the Bing Stars on 'em. I want to say too that I was very impressed with the friendliness of some of the Pro's. John Natalie Jr. was hilarious and an awesome all-around guy! He was asking me about my blue EK chain on the starting line after letting a friend use HIS quad! I was amazed. I just bought Walsh A-arms for my quad and approached Mike Walsh to get some pointers for setting them up because I was having a few problems. He asked me where was I parked and proceeded to take me back to my trailer to help me set them up. I felt like I just won a reality show or something. Tim Farr even invited my fiancee and me to ride at his track. This weekend was better than I could have asked for! I raced Prod. C and ended up with a 10th overall, the honey (Michelle Suciu) raced Women's B/C and ended up 2nd overall, so yes I had a damn good weekend. Thanks to everyone else that I met there and I pray to see you all again soon. Also many prayers to the riders that were injured. There were 3 lifelites on Sat. alone. Nate, and 2 other guys who both suffered two broken femurs within minutes of each others crash.

hey guys, thanks for the great comments about me. All the pro guys r really nice and its great to be racin with them. Any of them would be more than happy to talk to people and answer questions. I will def. be using the yosh pipe. It works great and pulls strong all the way through the power band. the head pipe comming off was due to a sping breaking, not the pipe itself. I can always use help training if anyone wants to come ride with me.( You have to let me beat ya though so you dont hurt my feelings) well everyone I will talk to ya later.:D

Hey John, I'll give you the hook up on that blue EK chain ( I was the one on the Cannondale) you were scopin' out - if me and Michelle (Suciu) can come ride with you and your Michelle! lol I don't think you have to worry about being beat though, unless we let you ride for like 30 minutes straight before we come out to race with you! Awesome ride too bro, I wasn't sure about that last lap though, Gust was tryin'! Yosh is top of the line products for sure. That was the only pipe that I used on my street bikes. You can't go wrong with titanium and carbon fiber!

Ive heard Atco is a relly cool track. Dustin and pat brown have told me alot about it. I am goin to come down sometime soon for sure.

Congrats wild man! I do believe that all of the hard work and dedication is paying off for all of you at East Coast this Year! A lot of Pro's have complaints and *****es at all of the tracks this year about things going on and changes being made but I have to say that you have just kept pretty quiet and concentrated on the racing side of things and it really shows. I think that all of the people who remember the wild Natalie now sees the dedicated Natalie. It is a great turn around for you and all of the people involved! I would love to see all of the work pay off for next year and get some money coming your way from the factories. Keep up the motivation and keep up the great job giving thanks to all of the people who help you. I think that this is where it will pay off for you! The last Southwick race before the national was yesterday, and i was suprised that there was not more people there. Seemed to me like the turn out was low.

My good buddy Vic was at Rausch Creek yesterday (Sunday, June 27) and said that he saw John and Michelle riding there. He said that they were absolutely flying and he tried to keep up with the two of them on his YFZ and was not even remotely close. He also said that Michelle is even more beautiful in person than in any of the pics. He didn't speak to them but said that they seemed very pleasent and personable when he saw them talking to others. Glad to hear that they are not stuck up. From John's posts here, I would gather not anyway! Go John and Michelle!

Heck yea, we would love to get some riding in! Especially when I can learn so much from just watching you go by! lol I know the feeling to about the chicky whoopin' on ya, I'm trying to hold Michelle back from the bigger jumps, but she is ready for them I guess.
